Recommendations for 3rd party Wifi extender/booster

Hi all

I have a Sky Max Hub. Unfortunatley, I don't get Wifi in our garden office, which is not covered by the wall-to-wall guarantee. Can anyone recommend a third party booster that will work with my router?

I don't know why Sky don't give you the option to buy one of theirs. It've very annoying.

@BigTA78 Does the office have power and connected to the home supply, it may be worth having a look at Tp-Link Powerline devices, but without a doubt best way is to cable by Ethernet from the sky Hub to the Garden office!

Powerline is a try and see, and speed is very distance dependant!

What do you connect to the ethernet cable at the garden end??

@Sceptic1 If using powerline the other part off the Powerline device, they come as different modules, and you purchase the specific Powerline that you need, some are straight Ethernet only, and the other is a combined Wired/Wireless device, take a look on the Tp-Link uk site at poweline!

If you are running an Ethernet cable between to locations then you can do either Switch to give more ports or a wired AP (Access Point) for wireless wi-fi connection!

You CANNOT use a sky pod as they do not support wired backhaul on the Ethernet ports off the unit's!

Powerline sounds like the two unit extension device I bought from BT before they had wifi extenders. The device transmitted its signal from one unit to the other via the domestic electrical wiring. The transmitting unit was connected to the BT hub by ethernet cable. I could try that if it's still lying around, although it was very unreliable.

@Sceptic1 They are not the best, electric mains power, so avoid using and extension cables, plug direct into the socket's is way better!

I have the Tp-Link and the work very well have had them on for 6+ years, one in the Garage, one at the LR for sat box connection and one at the Front Door for the Ring Doorbell. Never not worked! Not speed demons but do not need to be!

Thanks I'll maybe try one of the new versions of the BT mains extenders. Would save a lot of work installing ethernet cable all that way to my garage.

@Sceptic1 if going for pwerline adapters I would not buy into BT's branded kit but rather buy from one of the OEMs TP-Link being the brand leader but I have found Devolo reliable but pricy.

Performance depends on the condition of your homes wiring and always minimise the number of connections which is why always use the wall outlets rather than power strips for the adapters. Many adapters come with a pass through mains sockets.
