Port forward on Sky Hub Max (SR213) for Synology NAS
Hi,
I thought it might be helpful to provide the steps I went through to configure my Sky Hub Max (SR213 model) to allow Quick Connect and DDNS connections to my Synology NAS.
Caution: If you are configuring external access to your Synology DSM, you should at least ensure you have created a new administrative account that you use to log into your NAS, and disabled the built-in Admin account. Also, you have configured 2FA for that user (and any other administative users you have created).
The steps below are based on the assumption that you've already configured your NAS for Quick Connect and DDNS connectivity, e.g. it was working with a previous ISP but no longer works now you've moved to Sky.
Note that the Sky router is not one that Synology recognises (External Connection > Router Configuration) and so you cannot use UPnP to write the rules diectly to your router from the NAS, therefore these manual steps are required.
You need to configure 3 port forwarding rules on your router. You can ony do this from the MySky app - you cannot configure port forwarding rules from the web interface (192.168.0.1).
To ensure your NAS is listed in the MySky app, you need to ensure it's IP address is issued by DHCP. Previously my NAS had a fixed IP address that was within a range not issued to devices via DHCP. On the Sky router I had to open up the whole range but then I ensured my NAS router IP address was 'reserved' which I did from the 'Connected Devices' screen. Log into your router 192.168.0.1 to do this.
Also, from your NAS, go to Control Panel > External Access > DDNS and ensure your extrenal IP address is registered with DNS by clicking the Update Now button.
Once this is done, start your MySky app and click Broadband from the icons at the bottom of the screen.
Click the 'WiFi Settings' tile. Don't worry, it's weird but LAN connected devices are listed here too.
Click 'Advanced Settings'.
Click 'Port Forwarding'.
Click the blue 'Add port forward rules' button.
Click on the 'Select a device' drop-down list.
Synology Diskstation NAS Storage should be listed. Select it. If it's not there, see my comments above.
Click 'Add a port number' button.
Enter 6690 and leave protocol set to TCP/UDP (default)
Click 'Add a port number' button.
Enter 5000 and leave protocol set to TCP/UDP (default)
Click 'Add a port number' button.
Enter 5001 and leave protocol set to TCP/UDP (default)
Click 'Apply port forward rules' and confirm when prompted. This does not reboot your router.
After doing this, I was immediately able to access by NAS using:
https://[hostname].synology.me:5001/
https://[hostname].direct.quickconnect.to:5001/
https://[hostname].de8.quickconnect.to/

Hi, cheers for this. I was wondering how your port forwarding is holding up?
I didn't have a problem with the Synology NAS appearing on the list. However, it seems like the only device on my network that port forwarding doesn't work on is the Synology NAS (out of my iMac, MacBook, and Lenovo). Very strange – any ideas?

I'm having the same issue as you since moving to Sky. Just wondered if you were ever able to resolve this?
