Part fibre broadband reliability opinions please

We are now 7 days from the end of our 80/20 fttc BT contract who are asking a ridiculous £75+ month to renew. That's obviously not happening.

Sky are offering the cheapest like for like replacement service, but the impression given by this forum is that it's an unreliable disaster.

I'm sure that's just because only those with issues post and millions are happy, but some reassurance would be nice.

Any opinions or mini reviews, good or bad, would be gratefully received.

Thank you in advance.

On the contrary, the issues are presumably very real for those affected: on the whole people just don't post to support forums when everything is going well.  The point is an incredibly tiny percentage of over five million Sky Broadband users are posting here...

Re: Part fibre broadband reliability opinions please

@Andym15 Like any Forum you are only ever going to see the horror stories, i have been back to sky since Mar2025 and 20 years in total before a 11month stint on EE, Never an issue on copper fttc like your connection although i had a 40/10 split due to the distance from the cabinet and now FF500 also not one single problem at all! Sky Max hub can be tempremental in certain homes but with your current and the equivalent nearest to your BT Smarthub2 if that is what you have is the SR203 sky Broadband Hub, see the link below for all off sky's, last two are obsoleted now!

Re: Part fibre broadband reliability opinions please

@Andym15 You also have 30 day's no questions asked with sky policy if it does not work out, get on and adjust the Broadband Shield straight away to what is needed, landline phone is included free off charge don't use, don't connect it, calls are way pricey unless you pay the package price which there is 3 to chose from, and just do a OTS change any ISP who is using will take care off the BT Shutdown and transfer, you just have to do your due diligence and make sure it all falls into place, Forum is here should you require anything you are not sure off!👍

@Andym15

Unless FTTP or CityFibre is now in your area, Sky will be using exactly the same Openreach circuit that BT has been.

Re: Part fibre broadband reliability opinions please

@TimmyBGood

FTTP is not on the horizon here yet, so it will be the current reliable Openreach  FTTC connection.

My concern was the awful way Sky are portrayed in this particular part of the community with virtually no posts indicating  anything good.
@JimM1  has mostly put my mind at rest though and it now looks like its just unfortunate that 99% of posts here are negative horror stories rather than reflecting any hint of reality.

I hope I will soon be able to provide at least one or two positive comments to balance things out a little.
I appreciate the replies I've had. They have been really helpful.

@Andym15 if you read the ee/bt forum you will see exactly the same issues forumsxexcentuatecthe negative cas satisfied customers don't post. In essencecany isp reselling an Openreach conection will providecsimilar service. The differencesxarecin things like WiFi performance in your home where Sky donseem weaker.

@TimmyBGood

Oh of course they are real. Thats not what I meant. I apologise profusely if I worded it that badly. I'm so sorry.

Your second point is exactly what I was hoping to clarify and feel I now have. I'll mark this as answered.

Thank you to all who replied.
