Options to Replace the Wi-Fi of My Sky Broadband Hub, but keep Voice

Finding the web UI of the Sky Hub clunky and unresponsive, and looking for more features and control. Qos, better MAC binding/naming/access control, stronger (possibly mesh) Wi-Fi that's capable of handling all my home automation devices without falling over.

Any suggestions for a 3rd party option appreciated...

...and the best way to apply this. i.e. can the Sky Hub be replaced, still keeping voice/phone functionality? Or do I just disable the Hub's Wi-Fi and connect the new router as an accesspoint? Or can the 3rd party device take position as the main router on my LAN, with the Sky Hub just handling the voice/phone?

Have FTTP, so ethernet starts at the ONT.

Thanks

No

Yes, if it has a dedicated access point mode.

The Sky Hub has to be the first router in line with the ONT.
