I waited in all day for Openreach and they didn't show up. But there is no way of communicating with them or Sky. Sky advice states wait until 6pm as they might be delayed. No message. No show up. A message on MySky says I need to contqct Sky but nobody picking up.

From personal experience I know that while Openreach has statutory power to dig, they are required to notify the local authority (for pavement work and, bizarrely, regarding lamp posts) plus any utility company who may have in-pavement infrastructure, and then wait for acknowledgement which can take rather a long time (particularly during summer holiday season) even though everyone involved has target times for response.
Openreach (or more likely a subcontractor such as Kelly Communication) also has to have availability of a digging team with suitable plant for excavation and patching, of which there's limited supply.
Our FTTP installation booked through BT which had a similar sounding requirement eventually took something over three months, but has been entirely reliable since then.

Just called now and Openreach did come yesterday - but a flying visit - it looks like they have to ask the local authority the dig a 2 feet long trench from the manhole across the pavement to the front of my property. Although 8 feet away is another BT manhole that carries the telephone lines under the pavement to out house and next door. Sounds like we might eventually get sky fibre before the next ice age.
