Open reach installation to replace virgin fibre
I am changing from Virgin fibre to sky broadband. I do not have the BT connection in the house, only outside to where it was routed in a complicated manner into the house. Who do I call to have the connection . Sky suggested use the app on connection date which will flag a connection issue and sent a team to sort this out. I understand that openreach are responsible for the installation outside and into the house, is this correct.
Also, the virgin unit enters the house at a very poor point right in the corner of the property. Will the Sky unit be located at the same point ?

Re: Open reach installation to replace virgin fibre
Once Sky or any other similar ISP accepts an order, they book Openreach to do the provisioning: at that point it's an Openreach project and takes as long as it takes.
Openreach typically won't have their duct point in the same place as Virgin.
Putting the address into the BT Wholesale Availability Checker should indicate which provisioning type is applicable.

It's the table and the two text lines below it which are most useful.
Remove any personal information (such as the address itself) if you post an image.

Re: Open reach installation to replace virgin fibre
@Paul2557 when you place an order with Sky the agent will check the Openreach database which will tell them what work needs doing. They will then book an install slot in the Openreach diary.
What work needs doing will vary if you put your full address in the following checker and post the results, including the first few lines of the notes, but minus the ref to your address we should be able to tell you what will need doing. DSL Checker
Normally the engineer, who can be from Sky or Openreach, who does the final install will try to fit the ONT unit where you want it but there are practical limitations. This guide explains more https://www.openreach.com/help-and-support/full-fibre-broadband-installation-checklist

Re: Open reach installation to replace virgin fibre
This is the issue I am going through at the moment as well, I wasn't home when the engineer came yesterday only my partner and he never thought to ask if the engineer puts in the call to open reach and roughly how long it would take to hear back? Amy help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Re: Open reach installation to replace virgin fibre
I'll let you know when I get answers and actions. Right now it's just wait. I'd prefer to be proactive and not have the Sky man say we need to schedule open reach, then be without for God knows how long.

Realistically, that's what's going to happen. An ISP cannot use its personnel to provision an Openreach connection to properties in the UK: Openreach is the monopoly network maintainer, but doesn't take orders from householders.

Re: Open reach installation to replace virgin fibre
@Julie241 you will have to talk to Sky to find out what Openreach have told them. If the engineer was doing a survey Sky should know what is going to need doing. Some installs are simple and can be done in one step others like my own required multiple vidits to lay underground cable etc.
