Only a week until Sky installation but cable not ladi to house yet?

Hi, 

I ordered Sky Broadband on 6th April and was given an instation date of 15th May. I thought fine, as Openreach needs to run cable from the street through my garden and attach grey box to my house first. However before Openreach visited for a sight survey Sky postponed their installation until 2nd June .

Openreach chap appeared one day to mark the pavement outside my house and agree where box will be attached to my house. He also ran the fibre cable to the access hatch on the pavement right outside my garden. A few days later a surveyor from a company called Circuit turned up to assess the work needed to lay the cable across my garden to the house wall. He said yet another local contractor would lay that cable but had no idea when that would happen.

A month has passed since then and nothing else has happened. It's now just over a week until Sky are supposed to visit.

Should I be worried that there are now only 5 working days for that local company to show up? Should I be contacting Sky to query this? If yes, how do I do that?

Any advice gratefully received.

@Octavius_Ace If Circet have not completed the civils yet to get the fibre from Ground box to the Wall, they may still do it all same day just a bit off faffing arround, do not be surprised though that you get the text for delay on the installation, the text's should start to hit your mobile very soon, so watch and do as requested by them... Have a look on your account My Messages for any updates and order's may have some detail. If you have internet already the lights will stay on until the Fibre is all completed!

It's frustrating as I start paying through the nose for my existing VM broadband from 3rd June, as I come off the discounted deal I'm on and my monthly bill will increase by £18. Add to this that VM is already around £20 a month more than the Sky deal. So for each month of delay after 2nd June, it'll cost me £38!

So fingers crossed things start to happen soon.

When you say circuit , out of interestare you in NI and is that KN Circet

Anyway it does look that they needv to dig a trench and lay armoured fibre cable presumably because there is no duct.  If they've giventhe start of june then that should coincide witn you activation day

The Sky message I have actually states that Openreach will install on 2nd June, while the orders screen also indicates Sky engineer activation on 2nd June too.

So perhaps everything is happening on the same day.

Let's see what happens.

And re. your comment, yes there's no duct, as I've not had a BT connection for 25+ years, only VM.

@Octavius_Ace Same for me, we could start the Band of Brothers and raise the Saltire, for Fibre..... Son used to work for Circet until i told him to get back to Scottish Water, there is no way to magic a fibre cable up to a home with a blocked duct, i said son, just go back people understand when they have a water issue, when they want that magic Fibre DO YOU really need to dig up my garden using that digger machine, duh!

FYI for anyone interested, Sky Customer helpdesk have been as helpful as they can be, but it seems Openreach and their subcontractors have yet to post a date for duct laying  or OTN box installation.

So with 4 working days until Sky are supposedly scheduled to come out for the last bit of cabling, it seems likely that another delay is on the cards.

Taking 2 months to organise cabling from an access point, over about 10m of grass, doesn't seem like a big ask to me. Understaffed I assume.

Still, I should get a phone call on the day of activation to let me know that things have been delayed. Which will be self-evident to me by then anyway 😉

@Octavius_Ace 🤣 best laid plans, even if you where to go dig it yourself, tell them come lay the duct and throw the fibre cable inside it at the same time if you do not mind, you can guess what the reply would be, good to keep the old chin up, easier for all to smack it down....👍
