Obtaining credentials to use my own router
Hi all. Looking for a little assistance. I have just taken on a Sky broadband account. I have asked if I can use my own router (it is better than Sky;s hub) and I keep being told it isn't possible. I know it is but I would need my credentials. Can anyone advise how I can get Sky to tell me? The Sky Hub has not yet arrived but are the credentials included?
I am in the UK and it will be part fibre. I have my own IT company so I can work out the options to make the connections. But Sky customer service, that everyone leeps telling me is fantastic have been absolutely useless so far.
Any help appreciated.

Re: Obtaining credentials to use my own router
Is this a business connection
Is your line a g.fast or vdsl line
For part fibre you need a seperate dsl modem and router or combined modem router such as the asus dsl ax82u for vdsl
In the client identifier (option 61) enter anything@skydsl|anything
And enable vlan id and enter the value 101
Sky Stream , Sky Superfast, SR203 router, Tp link td w9970 + Asus RT AX58U (backup), Xbox Series X, google home mini, LG 55 inch uhd tv, with Dolbyvision, samsung a5 2017 and samsung s21
If I get it right mark as answered
If I get it wrong humour me
If I say something you like give a thumbs up

Re: Obtaining credentials to use my own router
Sky uses generic rather than individual credentials, the format of which is widely available online. What's more important is that the router supports DHCP Option 61 on the WAN connection.
Advice related to using Wireshark or MAC cloning is no longer relevant.

Re: Obtaining credentials to use my own router
Thank you both. This is just a standard consumer line with an existing Openreach dsl line. I just assumed that the 'anything' in the credentials field was an exemplar for privacy and not verbatim, lol.
As an aside, first network I built was Novell Netware running on 10base 2 ethernet part based on a Token Ring, so I have been around a bit, so protocols and support for vlans etc in the router is meat and drink.
Again, many thanks.
