ONT - the drilled hole under it

Hello, I've just had fibre installed and under the ONT a hole has been drilled where the wire comes into the house and then plugs into the ONT. Does anyone know why it's been done that way please as others I know don't have this hole. Also should there be a cap put on this as I don't have one.
Grateful for any help. Thank you.

@sandyc1

The drill hole and white plastic liner is standard for FTTP because the new optical pigtail has to come inside somehow, but it would be more usual for that opening to have a cap: I think this just snaps over the rim of the liner.

Thank you so much for your reply and the photo. I really appreciate it. I think I should maybe query with sky then to see why I don't have a cap over it.
Thanks again, much appreciated

Re: ONT - the drilled hole under it

I've rang sky and they are saying that only wood houses have a cap! Apparently I can't as I'm brick.

That seems unlikely, but I guess it's possible.

@sandyc1 I think you got fobbed off as I have a cap on my inside wall which is definately not wood

@sandyc1 same on my install through a masonary wall your engineer looks to have missed fitting the cap

Re: ONT - the drilled hole under it

Thank you everyone for your replies, much appreciated. I rang again and spoke to someone else who said the wood verses brick thing is completely wrong and they don't know why I've been told that.
They can't however send me a cap out and they can't get an engineer to come and pop one on, so I've either got to source one online  or leave it as it is.
I'm not best pleased about it as I think I should really have had one.

@sandyc1  just checked mine out of curiosity, it was done over a year ago and behind drawers. Mine is just a rough drilled hole opening so your lucky to have the inner plastic sleeve lol

Re: ONT - the drilled hole under it

I have been led to believe that Sky FTTP engineers do not carry the capped version of the cable entry grommet, and that these are only used by Openreach and their contractors. Mine was installed by Quinn's and has a capped grommet.
So if you have the open cable entry grommet I'm guessing that it was installed by a Sky engineer.

my Ont was fitted by openreach and that placed it over the hole to cover any entry point and sealed it externally with sealant and the similar external cover as the first post in the thread
