No internet since fibre install

Hi

First post.  I'll try and be as informative and succinct as possible.

Until recently, our set up was: Sky Q, copper broadband, SR203 hub.

Was upsold Sky Glass and Fibre (been a Sky customer for 15 years or so).  TV arrived and installed, though not connected to internet pending fibre install (thank goodness, else we'd have no TV either).  Fibre install was Thursday, completed by BT Openreach.  A new line was put in from a different pole (copper line left in).  Engineer switched everything on (using existing hub as was not sent a new one), 3 green lights on ONT and hub, no voice light at all which he commented as 'strange'.  Can connect via WiFi but 'Connected without internet'.  This is the case for phones, Sky Q box, any device.  Engineer phones his BT colleagues for 45 minutes, all checks complete, no faults.  He then phones Sky, runs through the checks, Sky say that the hub needs an update that should happen automatically but he can 'force through' his end and will confirm in an hour (BT Engineer leaves).

When they phone they say 'all fixed now', we check, funnily enough, it's not.  Run through the resets etc, no change.  We are then told our hub is 'incompatible' and they will send a new one.  In the meantime, we've researched and know the SR203 is perfectly compatible (lie number 2 (number 1 being that they can force an update as the maybe 10th person at Sky we've spoken to now confirmed this is not possible).  They send a new hub...

New hub arrives, shock, it's an SR203.  Plug in regardless, 3 green lights, no voice light, 3 lights on ONT.  No internet.  Phone calls 3, 4, 5...

No update in 72 hours as promised, we've had to make all the calls (more lies ("I promise I will call you back personally" - sorry Darren, we had higher hopes from you)).

Current situation, new hub powered on, same 3 lights, no voice, no internet, this is day 5.  A BT Engineer is coming tomorrow.   As they have already done checks (I overheard the original BT call and was very thorough), we are not convinced they will fix it, so hoping others may have unfortunately experienced the same but may be able to help.

Ultimately, the reason for the post is to seek help.  The secondary purpose is to vent.  The service we have received has been appalling, the fobbing off, lies, let downs and the ultimate insult of being offered a £15 voucher as compensation.

We work from home, have two school age children and are relying currently on pretty terrible Sky mobile network to see us through.

If BT don't fix, and a new hub isn't the answer, I cannot see an end or resolution.

Please let us know if you need any further details which may help you guys resolve

Many thanks

@DebSteve

To avoid confusion, BT is an ISP in competition with Sky.  In this context, it's Openreach, not 'BT Openreach' or 'BT': they dropped the joint branding several years ago.

Thanks for the clarity.  Hopefully the error doesn't confuse the post content or intent

Re: No internet since fibre install

@DebSteve Do the following if you can, disconnect the Ethernet cable from the back off the sky Hub, it should be connected on port 4 off the sky Hub and it is also marked as WAN in red letters. Switch the hub off, leave a couple minutes...

Power the hub back on with NO connection too the ONT, it should power up Green on the Power light, Green on the wifi light, ideally orange on the voice light, and NO light on the Internet.....

Try the old DSL cable and connect it to the OR Master socket, i would expect NO change whatsoever to the hub lights, just leave it a minute or so, if they do change Internet goes Green see if you have a Internet connection!

Last part is if DSL OR Master socket does nothing as it should not, then reconnect the Ethernet with the DSL cable out first, Light should pop up Amber then go Green, again see if Internet goes live!

Re: No internet since fibre install

Thanks @JimM1

I will try these steps again in the morning, though have been through them before already!

The original master socket and new POE for fibre are not local, so cannot switch between two with hub powered.  I tried to connect original hub to old copper broadband line on the day of the switch, already disconnected so no luck there (I had hoped for an interim grace period or to be able to use 'old' broadband which had been faultless until such a time the fibre was sorted).

From more research and cautiously with AI, I am learning towards a provisioning issue Sky's end, rather than a physical fibre line fault. Will ask OR tomorrow to confirm the line has been mapped, provisioned and activated on BNG and OFL and handed over to Sky

Re: No internet since fibre install

@DebSteve Exactly were the posting was heading to see what happened, you cannot have them both, so once on the ONT sky should have been connected but also confirmed that the ONT was online with the sky Hub and it was safe to drop the copper connection offline.

Line ONT up Green power solid, Pon also Green solid, and the lan pulsing slowly both on the ONT and the light back of the SR203 nic connection, then OR is up sky may also be up but restricting data flow!

Re: No internet since fibre install

@DebSteve There was an OP posted few months back the ONT / SR203 took 20-30 minutes to wan connect on boot up, did not believe that so got him to change the WAN connection off Auto, you will see the picture linked below when it get's cleared for viewing, after that he was on the standard 4-5 minutes, straight green on the Internet and connected at that point!

Sky SR203 off the Auto to WANoE always connection!Sky SR203 off the Auto to WANoE always connection!

Re: No internet since fibre install

Hi @JimM1

ONT is the Adtran unit, solid green on Power and PON, pulse/flash on LAN.  Securely connected to hub in port 4 (via 'conversion kit' cable), pulse/flash led on the right hand of the the two LEDs (right hand as you're looking at the back of the unit, next to reset button)

Will look at changing WAN startup if no luck by OR today

Many thanks for your replies, whilst we aren't making progress it's nice to know people want to help

Re: No internet since fibre install

@DebSteve You are spot on with the Adtran, the hub looks good also, RHS slow flash, LHS one Orange = 100Mb/s connection, and Green = 1000 Mb/s or the full 1Gb/s either way, All green on the SR203 it's up and at it, the voice light off/amber would be a landline phone issue but should not affect the Internet but it sometimes did, so not sure 100% it's fixed, think it is was originally the orange light off doom few years back now though....

No joy with it all get straight onto sky and ask why green on Internet but NO data flowing at all so wifi connected but no Internet, would be trying one Ethernet connection for sure to see the sky Hub is good.

The web interface to it http ://192.168.0.1/ take out the space between the p and the colon :, first screen should have connected on the Summary Status for the Broadband....

I have also got the Nokia ONT supplied by OR, but not seeing anything mentioned towards Adtran and there must be millions in use by now!

Edit:- did notice you had said POE so that would be Power Over Ethernet, NOT a way to connect port4 Wan to a ONT, the ONT does not support POE neither does the sky Hub, so if you are connecting that way disconnect, straight Ethernet is the connection on the Wan Interface at least to start with for sure....

Re: No internet since fibre install

@DebSteve Once you are up and connected to the sky Hub, maintenance tab and the status bottom off the page, you will be able to sit, see the packet's and data also for them all, wan/lan/2.4/5, so that may be a very handy screen to look at!

Use this link and you will see what the status screen looks like! Status will be WANoE and not MER as the picture shown as you are on a full fibre line!

Re: No internet since fibre install

By POE I meant point of entry (as in, new line brought in to house from different pole to different part of my house (original master socket is now in the 'middle' of my house following an extension))

I tried with the acronyms!
