No WiFi connection between Sky Q and third party router

Hi

Have set up Asus AX6000 to work alongside Sky SR203. (FTTP) I’ve retained the Sky router as need that for the landline.

New router is working in access point mode and provides > 100mbps download speed to all devices throughout the house.

The problem is with the Sky Q box. Was previously connected via ethernet to the SR203, but I wanted to get rid of the wire and utilise the superior WiFi. I connect to WiFi (2.4Ghz other router in settings) and works until TV/Sky Q switched off. Then told "you have no connection .." and have to go through rigmarole of reconnecting. It's noticeable that the Sky 2.4 and 5Ghz settings are re-enabled in the hidden menu settings.

I’ve tried to follow process I've gleaned looking at similar posts on here:

Connect Sky Q to ethernet

Switch off the two Sky Q hotspots using the hidden menu

Remove ethernet

Connect to the 2.4Ghz network

I know there are WiFi limitations when using either non-Sky ISP or third party router. However, I'm still with Sky and only using the new router in access point  mode.

There's probably something simple I doing/not doing that will fix this. (Turning off the Sky hotspots etc)

Appreciate any wisdom on this.

Thanks

@hapazard2 a lot depends on what Sky Q box you are trying to connect. A main Sky Q box should connect to your Asus wifi but only using the 2.4GHz band. Sky Q minis however cannot connectvtoma third party wifi service.

If you are keeping the Sky hub anyway  I would turn its wifi back on and connect your Q boxes to that. With a little care you should be able to set the wifi channels on the Asus so they dont interfere with the Sky hub. You may need an app like WiFi Analyzer to see which channels are being used by each device. You can set the Sky hub to sechalk of its usual 80MHz wifi bandwidth for the 5GHz band so instead of ch36 to ch52 you can gave ch36 to 44 or ch44 to ch52.

Re: No WiFi connection between Sky Q and third party router

Many thanks. We only have one Sky Q box. (2Tb HDR) It does connect, but then obviously disconnects when the box is turned off. Do I need to disconnect both 2.4 and 5Ggz settings in the hidden menu?

Latter advice a bit technical for me but willing to go it a go. Does the process to avoid WiFi conflict between the two routers involve tweaks to both SR203 and Asus settings? Also, would I need to leave the 2.4 and 5Ghz settings on in the hidden menu?

Many thanks

Re: No WiFi connection between Sky Q and third party router

Hi

Further update. I've re-enabled WiFi on the Sky Hub. When I select the option to connect, it asks for wps button to be selected. Do that but search always fails. (Not sure how long I need to keep button pressed?) Tells me I may need a Sky Booster, when hub about 2m from Sky Q box😀

From the Asus settings, that seems to be using 8 and 56 to connect to the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz respectively. The Sky Hub home page only identifies Channel 36 for 5Ghz, just auto for  2.4Ghz.

WiFi analyser (Airport) shows two 2.4.GHz networks. (Asus using Ch8 and another using Ch1-guess that must be Sky Hub? It just says 2.4 without the name on back of router)

I knew I'd get hopelessly confused with this. Perhaps I should just revert back to the ugly ethernet to connect Sky Q box?

Thanks
