New mesh system for Ultrafast Plus FTTP

Hi, about to upgrade from standard broadband to FTTP.  Currently have sky Q hub (will be replaced by 4.2 hub) and BT whole home wifi, which i'll replace with a new mesh system.  Don't want to spend over £500.

- no mini q's or anything like that.  a couple of smart TVs, computers for home working nd 2 kids gaming and streaming.

- 3 story victorian brick wall house with a few deadspot extensions

- no need for bells and whistles (security / parental controls etc).

- no landline used

- almost all connections will be wireless (could connect a few devices by ethernet if there are multiple mesh access points)

Key driver is simplicity (I am tech clueless); speed and coverage in the property.

As i understand it (from reading here, but not actually understanding more than the words!) , i can

a) use the sky 4.2, turn the wifi off and connect to pretty much any mesh system in access point mode (which is what i'm doing now with hub and bt whole home wifi?)

b) ditch the sky 4.2, plug a new router than supports dhcp 61 directly in the wall and connect this to my mesh system.

imho, option b) is least preferred because i dont' need the bells and whistles and i'm really not technical so set up could be headache?  if not, seems like asus xt8 is a good option.

if i'm going with option a) what's the best bet, or doesn't it matter much.  tp link seems easy and well rated.

rightly or wrongly, i have the idea that multiple access points - like a TP link system will provide better coverage for my extensions and brick walls, than something like xt8 with just the two routers.

am i understanding my options correctly?  anythign i've missed or any recommendations why i should do something differently

thanks in advance to @mae-3 and @Chrisee and others!

@tomz11

Your right option A would be easier if your not too confident on a more advanced setup.

Any system will work in that configuration really so its really down to your choice on cost & feature set

Hi @tomz11 I dont live in a Victorian home but I use a version of your option a) where I have 3 Deco M4 units connected as access points which gives decent wifi (>150Mb/s) on each of the 3 levels in my split level home. Cost me £100 when I bought them. They are simple to set up using TP-Links Deco app. My Sky hub connects to my kit thst uses ethernet and currently does run with its wifi on as I can keep the channels separate but that is more because I can than it is needed.

Re: New mesh system for Ultrafast Plus FTTP

I've got 4 Amazon eero pro 6 doing the same thing. Master unit is bridged to the sky router and then the rest is plug and play. Can get them on Prime or similar days within budget depending on how many you need but I have one behind the TV/Sky box to connect them.  You just change the ssid and password to the old sky router details.

If you have compatible devices this gives you wifi 6 as which is less congested.
