New job, new computer but can’t get on work VPN or use Teams call at home

I've got a new job and new laptop and bear with me, I am not techy. 
Internet works fine and I hardwire using an Ethernet cable. 
however I cannot connect to my work VPN, forticlient - when I click it it goes up to 90% and then turns off. 
I know it works because I've used it on other WiFi not at home. 
Also I can use teams for messaging but as soon as I go on a call it freezes and then drops - it will connect and I get to say hello and then it drops. 
Before Xmas and in my previous job I had similar issues and my IT Team sorted it by logging on to my Pc but I have no idea what they did. 
Current IT Team is saying they think it is a setting on my router but they can't connect to my PC remotely to look at it. 
I've tried rebooting router - no change. 
I've taken all settings off shield - no change. 
help please!!! I need to be able to work from home a couple of days a week.

@LauraCor if you have a black Sky hub it is unlikely thst the issue is with the Sky connection. There is an issue with some VPNs and the white Sky hubs but that does notcaffect the black variety. I would escalate the issue with your IT support as it is unlikely you are the only useron a Sky connection but its worth turning off Sky's Broadband Shield to see if that resolves the issue - the setting is in the My Sky app.
