New connection but times out and get big ping

I have just got new 150mb fibre, everything is good according to Sky tests, but when I try and run ookla speed test it often fails, if it does run it always has big number for upload ping >100. I struggle to get access to outlook, it says not connected to Internet, but computer says it is connected, it is hard wired and yes swopped cables around they all work and cat 5e or cat 8. Occasionally I get access to ookla and get 140mb download, but 1mb upload max, usually just says not connected to Internet. If use WiFi connection it says 140mb download with 28mb upload, but sometimes just says there has been an error and you don't get results. The old system from BT had pings less than 30 for upload and download, is a ping bigger than 300 causing the issues, and what can I do to reduce the ping, I tried cat8 cables but makes no difference, also shortened cables to as short as they can be, many thanks if you can help out and ideas, I am not a computer wiz kid.

@Chris12345 check the network settings for the ethernet connection to check you are not still using the old BT settings ideally set the them to get all settings from the Sky hub but check the gateway address is 192.168.0.1 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and if you are using a fixed IPadddress it is reserved on the hub's interface.

Sky and Openreach do not guarantee upload latency but typically my connection returns around 100ms over WiFi but Sky and BT should not show any major dufference. . Cat8 cables will not help, with latency and unless you plan to go into the data centre business are massive over kill cat5e is ample for a system limited to 1 Gb/s.

Re: New connection but times out and get big ping

Cheers for help, these are the addresses in use, I have reset everything, currently I only have hardwire connection, so going to try a WiFi usb to see if it helps tomorrow from amazon, the latency is over 300ms at the moment. The cat 8 cables were only a pound more that cat6 so future proofing for next level of Internet? My phone does not mind the latency and the TV, while sometimes throwing me off works most of the time, both on WiFi. Old BT on 5mb broadband copper was actually quicker downloading on phone and better TV, latency was about 10-20ms, so I thought 150mb fibre was enough, but may have to upgrade to watch HD TV at a later stage.

@Chris12345 You can only find that out once you have a good working system. FF500 and when busy as low as 200!

Re: New connection but times out and get big ping

@Chrisee, thanks I think the setting for the gateway etc was the issue, but I found it scary to change as there were so many, I have installed a USB WiFi adaptor to the pc instead of wired from the hub as suggested on another post, no reasoning why, but the latency from the WiFi is around 100 to 200, and it now let's me sign into my emails, so now resolved for £5.99 from amazon, usb WiFi dongle.
