New cable?

I currently have sky superfast, I’m getting ultrafast installed in a few days. When the engineer comes to swap the routers, will they also need to replace the cable coming into the house?

Openreach will either run a fibre optic cable underground or overhead and connect it to an ONT inside

Both will usually be done on your activation date

Confusingly, some Ultrafast can be delivered over existing copper phone lines using G.fast technology: Sky only supplies the 150Mbs Ultrafast 1 product this way, and only in areas where Openreach G.fast infrastructure has been deployed (elsewhere FTTP is used). Ultrafast 2 (500Mbs) and Gigafast (900Mbs) is always over purely optical cabling.
