New SKY fibre router assumes same name & password as old SKY router after c.12hrs

Had a fibre broadband router installed yesterday. This obviously came with a new ID and password. I had conformation from SKY that the new router had been activated and after that the old one became defunct through what I assume to be was a remote disconnect.

I connected all the various devices (phones, laptops, TV,  SkyQ, etc) to the NEW router via its NEW ID using the NEW password. All devices now are connected wirelessly, whereas before TV & SkyQ box were hardwired using ethernet cables. (Reason for this was that my previous TV would frequently lose its wifi connection despite only being 6ft away from the router and in direct line of sight, so I connected it directly. When I replaced the TV last month I just did the same as the cables were all there). Today basically everything (not checked the printer) show the wifi / router ID currently in use as being the OLD router using the OLD router's password. (The old router is now unplugged, disconnected and currently sitting in the middle of the lounge floor waiting to be 'filed away'). The new router is not 'visible' to any of the phones or laptops.

Why is this?

Why has this new router suddenly 'disappeared' and the old router's both ID and password taken over?

(Note - the supposed higher speeds of the new router are observed on 1 phone and 1 laptop - both of these devices are less than 1 yr old - the older phone and laptop show speeds massively below what is being expected).

Any ideas? Is this correct? This is the 3rd Sky router I've had and 4th or 5th router associated to this house but none of the others have ever assumed the ID and passwords of its predecessor. #WellConfused!

The white Max Hub backs up its settings online, and replacement Max Hubs retrieve details from there.  I don't believe previous Hub models can do so.

Hi, I'm probably going to open myself to a bit of ridicule here (computer type stuff is not my forte in any way) but both of the routers are black, neither were white. The new fibre router is a model SR203 and the old router is a model ER115. Does this tie in with what you say?

The SR203 is the Sky Broadband Hub from 2019, and the ER115 is the Q Hub (first released in late 2015)

I don't think either of those does online settings backup, but it's possible that custom settings created by a user get reset back to default when a firmware update is automatically installed, which would typically happen overnight shortly after first installation.

“The white Max Hub backs up its settings online…”

Got an old SR203 myself but just out of interest, is there some way of disabling that cloud backup?

I don't think so: by definition it's kind of difficult to stop a router talking to the internet ; )

True, but uploading things like SSIDs and passwords without specific permission is a bit out of order.

Thanks for the reply.

@Deb3000 Not even sure if the SR203 does anything, all the ones that i have had always setup offline and all currently and ever had the SSID and the password from the old ER110 on them so never used once the SR203 for anything on it's own, main reason for not doing a stupid factory reset apart from ssid, password wifi, password Hub and all the static IP assignments through the DHCP.
