New Gigafast....terrible wifi
Friendly and efficient install of Sky Gigafast full fibre from City Fibre yesterday, well done. However, whilst I get decent ethernet service from the Sky Max hub and the wifi in the same room with 500+ mb/s download and 600+ mb/s upload on my laptop, and only a slight deterioration wirelessly, the speeds go to about a fifth of that just outside the room housing the hub, to less than a tenth 15 yards away, and non existent practically upstairs. Not a big house.....and frankly on my iphone its all over the shop, using the same checker, next to the hub its showing 34 mb/s download, and 500+ mb/s upload....and the same sort of degradation moving away from the hub.
This isn't what I expected with a 900 mb/s service and wifi max! Help! I'm having to do this using my hotspot from 5G as wifi unusable upstairs!

Re: New Gigafast....terrible wifi
@Timbanquo a lot depends on how your home is constructed older homes with sokid walls are simply going to give a poor wifi experience due to the laws of physics. Consider where the hub is placed if its on the floor place it on a surface out in the open which should increaee speds in the room it is placed to 900Mb/s on a WiFi6 device. You may nneed a longer cablecto link the hub to tge ONT but these are just standard Ethernet cables that are sold everywhere including supermarkets.
Beyond that you could talk to Sky about getting the mstched extender pods but they will require you to buy their WiFi Max package to get those. However from the figures you quote these could also struggle.
65inch Sky Glass, 3 Sky Streaming Pucks, Sky Ultrafast + and Sky SR213(white Wifi Max hub) main Wifi from 3 TP-Link Deco M4 units in access point mode

Re: New Gigafast....terrible wifi
Thanks, but it's on a cabinet and we live in a modern house. My BT Smart Hub with discs and a 50mb package coped much better, even before I put the discs on and that was copper to the house. Very strong over Ethernet- though below what I've bought- but just disappears moving not very far. I have bought WiFi max too.
