Re: Minimum Broadband Speed More Than Halved After Contract Extension

@Chrisee

I don't believe this is a Openreach issue as the Wholesale Checker shows the higher speeds that @DuncanG has previously enjoyed. My best guess is that a fault developed around the same time as renewal, possibly storm related, & Sky are now basing their lower promise on that.

If he moves to another ISP then he will be able to raise a fault, something that Sky are denying him. Whether that actually gets the issue resolved is another matter, but at least it's a step forward. Just such a shame that all the budget ISPs have no mechanism to deal with anything that isn't covered by the script...

@FLC it is possible you are right but it isnt the ISP who calls the shots its Openreach. I am sceptical that in praxtice anything will chsnge no matter what a new isp "promises".

@Chrisee @FLC  - Just as way of a quick update, I will be moving to a new provider on the 28th so will see how that goes.

Interestingly though, when logged in today to see what my speed was via the Sky service checker, I am as of today back to something a little more expected of 31.9Mbps (up until yesterday it remained at 13.7Mbps).  All very bizarre but can only presume OpenReach have been messing around with the exchange (although again strange how only myself seems to be affected in the village).  Will monitor for the next couple of days.

@DuncanG more likely work at the cabinet or distribution point possibly switching your connection to a different pair than the exchange.

Could be any number of things including an intermittent fault such as water ingress starting to dry out. But academic in the big picture as if you stay with Sky & the issue returns, you'll again have no redress.

@FLC @Chrisee

As a final update, the change initially did not bring any benefits and I was stuck at a lower speed.  After giving it a couple of months for the connection to ‘settle’, I contacted my new provider who confirmed there was a fault on my line (after getting me to do the usual tests which I knew wouldn’t make a difference such as using the test socket in the master box).  The Openreach engineer was booked in, arrived in the area and an hour later, back to 35mbps – never even had to visit the house.  I suspect you are right FLC, there was water ingress somewhere and was an obvious issue and easy to fix.

This all being said, I suspect I will be okay for the next 4-6 months and then the issue will start all over again with Openreach unwilling to make a permanent fix to the issue.

It is a shame I had to leave Sky for this but it does show that by leaving them, it gave me the power to get it fixed.

@DuncanG

Good news & fingers crossed. At least if it does fail again you have the option to report again.
