I'm looking to extend my wifi coverage with a mesh system, mainky to accommodate an outside building, something like the ASUS ZenWifi.
We have FTTP, the sky router plugs into the BT openreach box (I think it's an SR203 router) and then that provides the wifi. We also have our landline phone plugged into the router.
I had planned to replace the sky router with the mesh system's router but I can't see that this would allow us to keep the phone line connected.
Has anyone tried this setup? Does anybody know if there any Mesh routers that support phone lines?
If not, a possible solution is to plug the mesh router into the SKy router via a cat 5 cable then run the mesh wifi off that. I would plan to turn off the wifi on the sky router but would that cause issues with the sky Q boxes around the house?
Just after advice to see if anyone has done similar - TIA!

The problem is that even if a non-Sky router has an appropriate 'phone' port, the configuration required for 'Sky Talk Internet Calls' is baked into the Sky Broadband Hub and otherwise undocumented.

The 5ghz channels on the sky hub and asus should be able to co exist due to the higher channels on the asus.
Try it leaving the 2.4 and 5ghz on the sky hub on for the sky q and minis and if the 2.4ghz interfere with each other disable 2.4ghz on the asus in that way you keep your landline, you use the sky hub for the sky q/sky mini mesh and other devices can go on the asus

Thanks, I guess this is my best option. Mesh router plugged into one of the ethernet ports and keep both routers setup.

I'm in just the same position, I want to get the maximum Wi-Fi speed that I can with the consistent 1gb connection I'm getting to the premises but at the same time not losing the VOIP feature. can I check if you tried to run the Asus in parallel with the sky router and if it worked OK?. @d-ken-83

You can disable Sky's wifi and connect your Asus router to one of the LAN sockets and use its wifi. The set up will have a double NAT which can cause issues with some apps but works for most people.

That's really helpful thanks @Chrisee @will I get issues with my Sky Q boxes if I do that?
Could I use your suggested setup and run just the 802.11ax as the only wireless band on the ASUS leaving the 2.4 and 5 channels a for the sky boxes? Thanks again.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Bbh1617 things do get more complex if you have Sky Q as the mini boxes can only connect to a Sky wifi signal. You need all of the bands active to maximise the Wifi6 speeds.
Assuming you cannot hard wire the Q boxes which is tge best solution then leave the Sky Hub's wifi running but if you want two wifi networks then you need to separate the bands each use. By default the Q boxes use ch36 to ch52 in the 5GHz band (ch36 80MHZ setting) but you can change that by choosing one of the two 40MHz settings so using ch36 to ch44 or ch44 to 52 and then setting the Asus to use different range there is little you can do about the 2.4GHz band as while you can vontrol the channel the hub uses your other Q boxes cannot be controlled.

Hi
sorry I've been away so not replied.
I kept the existing sky WiFi in the house then plugged in the ASUS mesh via an Ethernet cable and had the mesh network operate alongside it. Mostly only connected things at the extreme node in the outbuilding.
Didn't experience any issues having the two networks running side by side.

I'm using ASUS ZenWifi XD6 boxes BTW
