Since updating to IOS18.2 iPhone mail has become unusable over WiFi, but still works on mobile data.
I have now discovered that if I enable a VPN the iPhone mail app works perfectly.
Can anyone explain what is happening and why I need to run a VPN to read my mail on Sky broadband?

It's not an Apple issue. It's a Sky broadband shield issue. Turn the shield off and everything works like it should on WiFi.
Something about the shield and the 18.2 iOS is making the email app not let emails go through

Find out more@penguin1 suggest you do a simple web search before making such a statement as there is a huge number of reports of email issues with ios18.2 even the Daily Mail has a report on it see https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-14189273/iPhone-users-SLAM-iOS-18-2-update-one-vents...

Thanks.
Turned Sky broadband shield off and now Apple Mail is working correctly.
IOS 17 worked fine without having to turn the shield off, so something must have changed in IOS18.
I'm not happy about turning the shield off ,but it seems to be the only solution.

Thank you for this. I have spent five hours on the phone to Apple who can't fix it. Your solution did.

Turning the shield off does solve the problem. I would still say it's an Apple problem though, as Droids remain unaffected by the shield being on.
