Lifeline/Care Alarm and Fibre Broadband

Hi

My mother has a Lifeline. I am waiting for the local council to come and install a new digital sim lifeline box.

Anyone else have a lifeline and Sky Broadband?

A digital sim lifeline operates at different frequencies than Sky broadband, and no interference will occur between the two systems.

@welshguy2017 it is important if someone has an older alarm that still uses the analogue phone ststem that they tell Sky before ordering most broadband packages. The issue is with the planned turn off of the old analogue phone system telcos like Sky are switching their voice services to a new digital system that connects via the router which stops working during power cuts.

The alarm industry has had 10 years to prepare for this switch but many council supplied alarms have still not got a mobile back-up for power cuts or simply wont work over a digital line . If Sky are aware of your mum's needs they can probably help. This page from Which explains more https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/broadband/article/digital-voice-and-the-landline-phone-switch-off-wh...

If your mum is the customer be with her when she talks to Sky so you can take over the call if she needs help. However if the council are in the process of sending out a new alarm hold off switching broadband until she has a new alarm. The switch off of the anslogue phone system is not now happening until 2027.

Re: Lifeline/Care Alarm and Fibre Broadband

Hi I have a new digital lifeline, the fiber cable from the pole to the house was fitted by Sky, but the engineer who came to finish the connection wouldn't finish the job because of the lifeline and said contact the lifeline who said there was no problem as my lifeline is the latest digital box, I phoned sky and told them but they still wouldn't finish the fiber system?

@scouse+fred currently Openreach declined to install a fibre line if a care alarm is present whether or not it is compatable with a diigital connection see https://www.sky.com/help/articles/telecare-and-care-alarms how long before this limitation is lifted is unknown

Re: Lifeline/Care Alarm and Fibre Broadband

Despite my wife having a wireless personal care alarm, Openreach refused to upgrade my system to Fibre. I called Sky and they said there was nothing they could do !

@eggflipzip

That would be correct: no individual ISP can over-ride what appears to be current Openreach policy.
