LEAVING BT ? WHY ?

After decades with PlusNet, we decided reently to hange to Sky for broadband, retaining our existing BT telepone-nuber.  The change is due to occur in a week or so.  To our dismay, we have just been told by BT that they are sorry that we are leavgig.  Leaving ? Why ?

@paieye

Sky will be taking over your Broadband and your landline will be with Sky Talk. plusnet's parent company are BT.

@paieye  Did your Telephone service get supplied by BT with plusnet oroviding the broadband side?   Years ago it was possible to have one provider for the Telephone line and one for the broadband, although much less common these days as one provider tends to supply both.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

Re: LEAVING BT ? WHY ?

Thank you, Yes, when we moved here 16 years ago, BT already supplied the telephone-nummber/line.  We then changed our PlusNet account from our previous address to this one. Are you saying that having an ISP different from the line-provider is no longer a  possibility ?

Thank you.  Can I presume that the change of  telephone-providere odes not entail a change of telephonoe-number  ?

@paieyeWould say in most instances if you have asked to keep your number this should happen. Unless the provider you are leaving has a good reason not to let this happen. You can ask Sky if you are able to keep your number during the ordering process.

If someone has helped give them Like.

If you have found this solution helpful please tick this as the answer.

Re: LEAVING BT ? WHY ?

Yes, I did specify that we were to retain the number.  Thank you again for your very prompt help.

Re: LEAVING BT ? WHY ?

Its worth pointing out that there is no guarantee you will keep the number - it'd be a lot more likely if both phone and broadband were with the same supplier (ie Plusnet or BT rather than split between them) - and once "lost" its often impossible to get it back as it'll be outwith Sky's number pool.

Basically every telecoms company have telephone number ranges assigned to them (their "pool") and if the number isn't ported across from one teleco to another then you've lost it. Its sometimes possible to "get it back" but it isn't a quick process by any means.

Re: LEAVING BT ? WHY ?

This is causing me much anxiety.  On  top of that, I can find no way of reaching Sky by email to get some answers.

Sky don't use email as a general method of communication. Give Sky a call. If you already have a Sky Mobile call free by just dialling 150, otherwise you can use:
https://www.sky.com/help/home
UK: Scroll down and click on ‘Need more help’ and it provides an 0333 number.
ROI: change the flag in the very bottom right corner of the link to the ROI flag then scroll down and click on ‘Need more help’ and it provides an 0818 number.
(The forum filters don’t like us typing the digits in full).

As with most large companies the start will be automated but stay on the line and don’t hang up if you’re prompted to. Depending on your particular issue the operating times of the various departments may differ.
