Installation of Sky Full Fibre Gigafaat

Hi all,

We hae just had the 900mbps Gigafast Full Fibre internet installed Last Thursday. For the first few days, I have had nowhere near those speeds whilst playing my Xbox series x. Does it take a week or so for the speeds to optimise and stabilise?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Installation of Sky Full Fibre Gigafaat

Fibre will give you full speed as soon as it connects, the ADSL system used to spend time stabalising.

I take it you are connecting directly to your Hub (Router) with an ethernet cable, its the only way you will see max speeds.

I remember the Internet starting!

Re: Installation of Sky Full Fibre Gigafaat

Thanks,

I am not using Ethernet no and don't really have the capacity to do so.
I am currently seeing 100-110mbps on my Xbox series x on wireless. I understand that Ethernet will have higher speeds but I feel like that is rather low for wireless speeds. I spoke to a man who worked for sky in a local shopping centre and he said that it could take up to 14 days for it to stabilise and optimise to the highest speeds?

@BTx555 The shopping centre sky man was WRONG! Do you have the sky Max white hub or the Black Sky Broadband Hub?

This is speed test I have just done on my phone from Ookla, unsure why it's so slow.
@JimM1 do you have any suggestions?

Re: Installation of Sky Full Fibre Gigafaat

@BTx555 As a wi-fi 5 device the best you can expect and NEAR the boadband hub will be around the 600Mb/s mark, the further you go from it the slower it will be, if you have a phone etc then speed test next to the hub and that is assuming that your phone can do the speed test, my Samsung A54 gets it's full 500Mb/s but then i have only a FF500 sky connection!

Re: Installation of Sky Full Fibre Gigafaat

Why would they not supply a brand new router that supports the full 900mbps?
my Xbox is around 10-12 metres away from the router, through one wall.

Re: Installation of Sky Full Fibre Gigafaat

@BTx555 Your two values on that picture off 781 and 1873 the are rubish for speed!

Re: Installation of Sky Full Fibre Gigafaat

@BTx555 To test about 2 foot away, and ideally with all the other wireless devices off so you know what can happen, one wi-fi device buts in and your test is to pot as you have no idea how good your network is!

Everything is shared and all devices have to be serviced no matter what!

@JimM1 @Any suggestions on how I get higher speeds for my Xbox? Would a WiFi extender help or something similar?

Re: Installation of Sky Full Fibre Gigafaat

@BTx555 You need to test your x-box by cable, 100Mb/s on wireless would be acceptable speed to it, latency may just be the killer over wireless and you have not said that!

Have a read at this link.

And for speed related issues good read.

Since you have the Broadband Hub you should see if split bands will help first, link is below!

Re: Installation of Sky Full Fibre Gigafaat

@JimM1 As I said at the start a cable directly from the router to Xbox isn't something that I'm going to be able to do. Latency is a bit of an issue, I do experience spots of lag in games.
