Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThere is no specific deal for pensioners. This link explains the process if you’re eligible for Sky Broadband Basics.
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-social-tariff
The Sky account holder needs to be claiming Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Income Support, Income based Jobseekers Allowance or Income based Employment Support Allowance. These are the only qualifying benefits and in order for Sky to carry out checks with DWP they will need your NI number. The social tariff is for Sky Broadband Superfast 35 with an average download speed of 36Mb/s and the Sky Talk Pay As You Go tariff (ie: all calls are chargeable). It does not offer a discounted Sky Talk plan.
Broadband Basics is only available to customers who already have Sky Broadband and to add the Sky Mobile offer, you’ll need to be taking Sky Broadband Basics, and:
a) Already have Sky Mobile and a 3GB data plan.
b) Or you can add a new 3GB data plan with Sky Mobile.
If you are eligible you’ll need to call Sky to join. There is no equivalent offer for TV. The social tariff lasts 18 months and then reverts to the full cost but if you’re still eligible you will then need to re-apply.

I suspect no ISP has a deal specifically for pensioners. As @Daniel0210 indicates, the social tariff scheme is used because the qualifying benefits have an online verification mechanism made available by government to service providers.

I just tried to get on social taffiff. Im 66 and now on Pension Credit and paying £82 a month. for basic bundle. Wanted to just go down to broadband at £20 as stated on site. They told me Im not eligible as I live in a "POSH AREA".
Im horrified as there is no mention on website at all of areas being coded for poshness. I live in a flat over a shop in a basic area. This is disgusting so am trying to now cancel all my Sky. Been on phone 40 minutes so far. JOKE.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreI have raised this with the Community Management team in a closed forum. Suffice to say they were as surprised as I was.
The recommendation is calling in again (perhaps initially not mentioning your earlier call, although there may be notes on your account from earlier). Depending on how that goes the suggestion is to make a complaint

Please update this thread as to how you get on.

Thank you for all your research on this. Im still on phone and managed to get an excellent adviser. There are some difficulties apparently Sky are having with this social tariff deal. Just cancelled the TV package and am told my broadband will be just £20. BUT contract has come through as £40. This will be amended APPARENTLY. Its such a complicated process and got a million notes about this that and another. Adviser was lovely so heres hoping!

Hi you would be better off getting an unlimited data sim card for your phone and use that and connect all your devices too.
Its really simple to do and its cheap !!
I pay £17 per month for my phone sim card that includes unlimited data/ calls and texts, and i use the data to run tv"s/ game consoles/etc.
Definitely worth considering.
