Hi, I’ve just ordered Sky WiFi after leaving BT. I’ve paid an upfront cost, been given an activation date for my broadband etc, I’ve seen some posts from previous members saying that that they’d had the same outcomes but then never received the router and sky closed down their accounts? Just wondering if this was true as I can’t be without WiFi due to work reasons

Just to check: have you cancelled service from BT, or ordered from Sky without contacting BT?
The outcomes from these are very different.

Yes my service is cancelled with BT I’ve got one bill left to pay at the end of the month. My activation date for sky isn’t till the 2/8/23. I haven’t gone for tv either just broadband. Sky were cheaper than anything BT could offer

Ideally you contact sky first and they become responsible for switching from bt
But the router can be sent out any time up until the day before activation and probably won't show on your my sky app as been despatched yet but will closer to the time when you can track it
The warehouse glitch that caused some routers to not be depatched has afaik been resolved

As @cookiemonsteruk indicates, it's almost never a good idea to cancel an existing ISP: the Ofcom one-touch switch system is specifically designed to make this unnecessary for ISPs on the Openreach network (which BT and Sky are). Unfortunately having done so makes a seamless transfer of service much less likely, and may also create the circumstances which causes Sky orders to fail.

It would probably also be worthwhile for you to find out if the Sky service is going to be provisioned over FTTP: the BT Wholesale Availability Checker should generate that information.
