I purchased a broadband router approximately 10 years ago as original one stopped working. Do I have to return this when I  cancel my contract?

No, that's not returnable: Sky is only interested in getting the 2019 Broadband Hub and 2023 Max Hub models back these days: the 2016 Q Hubs are becoming obsolete.

If it's the white Sky Hub from before the black 2013 model, or any Netgear/Be/O2 badged hardware, then it really shouldn't still be in use at all.

Probably the Sky Hub from 2013.  That's technically still in support, but not returnable.
