Sky does not specify their routers with a USB port.

There are USB to RJ45 adapters but whether they would in this case is anybody's guess.

Sorry, I should elaborate. A USB to Ethernet adapter is entirely legitimate to give a USB-equipped device with an operating system (such as a slimline laptop) access to a cabled ethernet distribution.
However the Ethernet to USB things on eBay (literally an RJ45 plug with a USB socket bodged on the other end) are basically fake, and cannot give the router USB capability when plugged into an ethernet port.

Yes, the former was what I had in mind but, of course, the latter would be required and a bit of research suggests they are a waste of plastic. My apologies.

thanks guys for your suggestions have tried the usb to RJ45 but doesnt work as its not a powered connection the dongle needs power. Have it powered using my apple power plug but I think the problem now is the Sky router is not authenticating the dongle even though I have put in wifi password. Ugh! will have to call Sky tomorrow. thanks a lot!

Monitoring home automation usually needs a mini computer with home automation software installed, the type of automation depends on the equipment you use. A USB port isn't the only requirement, unfortunately, and it is more complex than first thought by most.

It might help if you listed theake and model of the device involved.
If it's designed to use a 'real' USB port on a router (intended for printer and storage sharing) then it's very unlikely to function with a Sky Hub.
If the router USB is just to provide power, then the issue is elsewhere

@TimmyBGood My router which I just received from Sky as I have just moved house HAS a USB port on it. That is why I was asking if I can connect my printer directly to router through said port as I cannot get it to connect with Wi-Fi OR through my ancient Windows laptop which we "rediscovered" when we moved.

I believe the new white Max Hub has a USB-C port, but that's apparently not intended or equipped for printer or file sharing. None of the previous models have any USB provision.

Are you using a Kingspan Watchman tank monitoring system with a USB device that has an antenna on it? If so then I have the same and I use a mains to USB adapter for mine. You cannot plug the USB dongle into a modem as it doesn't communicate through USB, only wifi.
Mine connects OK through WiFi but you might find separating the bands, if you've the sr203 modem, will succeed.

@TimmyBGood Hi there, thanks for your reply. Router I have is actually Black, not white please don't think that I am being rude or sarcastic here as I have no clue as to what it is called or what it does all I know is it connects myself, my wife, grandkids cat dog budgie etc to the internet. So basically USB port is useless?????

The usb c port on the max hub is the power supply for the hub not for connecting usb devices
