I have had to split my route setting (2.4 & 5). What are security settings?

Due to some smart items installed (smart sockets)  needing 2.4 I had to split the router with 2 different networks.  Of course the WiFi router is in a normal socket.

It is now very flaky, often needs me to try to reconnebt and not like it was before it was split

Wondering if the security and channel settings are correct.

Can somebody tell me the correct settings

WPA2-PSK (AES)

Or

WPA/WPA2/WPA2-PSK(MIXED MODE)

and do I have to change channel options

2.4ghz is set to Auto, bandwidth 20

5ghz 80mhz ch36

Re: I have had to split my route setting (2.4 & 5). What are security settings?

  • hank you fir confirming that. as I said it worked fine and quick before splitting

Does anybody know why my two laptops in Chrome or Edge (windows 11 and Windows 10) and my Samsung phone will not load bbc news, ebay etc but will load facebook gmail etc. this page took an age to load.

I have turned off AVG, Firewalls, extensions etc to test and no luck.

The new SSID's are just my router address with either XXXX2G or XXX5G with no special characters

No other settings apart from unticking 'Synchronise 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Settings'

I assume I d not retick.

I have of course unplugged the router for 15 mins and turned back on.

This issue has been going on for a week now.

ModelSR203

Firmware Version7.03.0509.R

P.S. its has taken 25 mins to send this is keeps crashing as can not get through.

@JAKid

Which SSID are you connecting your laptop/other devices to? The 2G or 5G one?

this is the 4th time I have tried to send this reply.

I flick between the two to see if I can get it work.

 I had to reboot laptop to get internet again.

It doesn't like this site as keeps timing out.  It blocks bbc but not Facebook

@JAKid

I would make sure your primary devices are connected to the 5G SSID.

Also try disabling your Sky Shield

Re: I have had to split my route setting (2.4 & 5). What are security settings?

If thats the broadband sheild it is already disable.

There is obviuosly something wrong with settings as the broadband was fine before but all I did was untick syc between 2.4 and 5, rename the two SSIDs which shouldn't cause any issues.

Router is only 4 months old.

Router has been turned off, left and turned back on

Laptop intenert working agin at moment as I rebooted laptop but can not keep doing that every 10-15 mins.

Its like maybe a channel thing.

2.4 is Auto

5 is 80mhz Ch 36

@JAKid

Your are not reading what we are typing properly.

Splitting your WiFi bands has the affect of forcing all your devices onto one SSID, unless you manually connect them to the other. If all your devices have been forced onto the 2Ghz SSID then your network performance would have taken a dive because that frequency is already highly congested and slower than the 5ghz frequency.

So I'll ask for the 3rd time now, can you confirm if devices such as your laptop are currently connected to the 2ghz or 5ghz SSID?

Re: I have had to split my route setting (2.4 & 5). What are security settings?

Laptop currently on 5.

I do have some smart devices on 2.4.  A few smart sockets, a cat flap, ring doorbell. Not a lot really that should block it  and its only me in the house.

@JAKid

Okay so that confirms your laptop is on the most stable frequency so its unlikely to be interference.

Do you have Sky Q or Sky boosters at all?

Sky Q in same room as router and my laptop (and me of course). nothing near it to confuse signal.

Sky mini upstairs (house very small so signal fine as phone works on wifi)

@JAKid

If your phone works fine its hard to blame anything other than the laptop.

Have you checked you have the correct WLAN drivers and that they are up to date?

Thank you for your replies.

Why would the laptops work before I split the router all the time with no issues and not now.

I think I may need to get a techy person to my house  to look at becuase its both laptops (Win 10 & Win 11).  Maybe a driver/Windows issue
