I am not getting the speeds that I am paying for.

I'm currently on sky full fibre 500 which is guaranteed as stated to reach a minimum of 410mbs and this is without Wifi Max. I have tried an ethernet cable, resetting the router and nothing works. My current speeds are now extremely unstable and i have checked multiple websites that show my speed, the maximum was 200 last night. I'm getting anything between 0b to an average of 273mbs. No one else has access to my sky broadband, the only device connected to sky wifi is my PC so I am not understanding what is happening. I'm struggling to download games or anything to my PC because the download speed is so unstable and dropping in and out.

@Scrxwloose we had our sky gigafast 900mbs activated on a sky max hub at 8.30am yesterday.Every device connected fine.all on WiFi.Coverage is excellent. However one big problem, speeds since activation started at 90mbs on plugging the router in and have stayed like that for the first 36hrs.2 calls to sky, agents can see the speeds are ridiculously low for the package so escalation to the network team.On My sky app it said there is a probable problem at the local exchange.text today from Openreach said everything is fine and contact sky, removed from app.Contacted Sky agent made us reboot and reset everything, same outcome.Agent said as openreach had closed it,can they do that on the app, they have solved it and sorted out the problem that was capping the speed so it will be sorted soon.

Didn't believe a word he said,so on it goes, still got 30 days before I can pull the plug, big shame.

@Scrxwloose run a speedtest on a reliable site like Fast.com or Speedtest.net using the Ethernet connection as you should see speeds slightly over 500Mb/s. Speeds shown by download sites can often be slower if the server is busy or the operator is limiting bandwidth as many do. People assume having a fast brosdband link will always make everything faster unfortunately that isnt quite the whole truth.

However if the speedtest shows different results go into the My Sky app's service checker and click on the Broadband link which will give you the speed Sky are recording together with the history if thst is below the guarantee you can activate the speed guarantee. With full fibre services from Openreach you are sharing a 2.48Gb/s connection from the exchange with up to 31 other customers which is why Sky cannot promise the full 500Mb/s but statistically contention is pretty rare as distribution points are rarely to fully sold and most people only use a tiny fraction of the bandwidth they buy.

Re: I am not getting the speeds that I am paying for.

hi, I checked on fast.com and when i am downloading anything it goes down to being extremely unstable even with an ethernet cable or resetting the router. it will be anything between 0bs-273mbs and drop off to 0 again every few seconds which it shouldn't be doing because I was told it was a guarantee of a minimum 410mbs  download speed and I haven't got this so far. I'm not sure what I can do as the other person stated above they just kept being passed around to openreach, back to sky which is what they originally did to me at first and still hasn't been resolved

Re: I am not getting the speeds that I am paying for.

With my situation every speed test shows the same,90-92.On the My Sky app the only red flag is speed TO the router is poor, wifi good,Sky Max hub good, data to devices good etc.Didn't expect this problem especially as coverage is great as is the hub even though we are going through the first 2 week monitoring period where dropouts are expected.

Don't think I can go through continuous phone calls trying to sort this so 27 days left before we can leave with no penalty.

Such a shame as the connection is solid.

@hammerjeff if the speed to the hub is the issue switching to another isp using the same line means the issue is highly likely to move with you.

Re: I am not getting the speeds that I am paying for.

Update: It has been 6 months and I'm still suffering with slow download speeds on the 500mb package. The downloads are even slower than the previous download speed i was paying for and I regret ever purchasing this package and there is little to no support from sky. Won't be renewing this package at all when my contract ends when it doesn't work as intended even on one device alone.

Re: I am not getting the speeds that I am paying for.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem on my 500mb package

Engineers keep asking me to do the same old checks - but stuck at 90ish Mbs....

No idea how to improve this

@Pc133 What does the service checker history say that you are getting! There is 30 day's off recorderd history to your line and only if you are using a sky supplied hub!
