I am moving to Sky from Virgin and need to change activation date

I am moving to Sky from Virgin and have an activation date of 23 September. 
But my contract with virgin finishes on 24 September and virgin are going to charge me an early exit fee of c£20

They will not let me exit on 24 th despite the broadband being received in a different way . They insist that Sky must change their date . I did phone Sky but they told me it's not possible . How do I change my activation date please ( no engineer is coming out ) ? Thanks

I suspect you may have been caught by a very early application of the extended one-touch-switch system: previously it would have been possible for you to keep the Virgin service for the additional day to see out their contract without penalty (because as you correctly say it's not on the same bearer cable as the new Sky broadband will use). 

 

I've raised the issue with Sky for advice.

Thanks . Yes you are correct it is the one touch switch just come in . Although in principle this sounds a good idea, this has shown a flaw . I will probably just get on the phone to sky .
