How to get Broadband if you don't own a cellphone
I want to order Broadband from Sky, but do not currently own a working cellphone, and cannot get past the bot to a real person. How can I get in touch with a real person by online chat to ask questions with respect to making an account?
What I want to ask the real person (in case anyone can help):
- Are there one-year contracts instead of just two-year and if so how much are they? Or if there are only two-year contracts, how much does it cost to break one?
- Given that the apartment I just moved to already has a Sky router in it, would they still need to send someone to set up the Broadband?
- What strength of internet is needed for stable large group Zoom meetings?
- Why can I not activate my account or order things online and can they fix that or do the order for me?

Broadband subscriptions are minimum 24 months. Cancelling early will mean early termination fees amounting to roughly the amount on the remainder of the deal.

If it's already got a Sky router then the previous occupant has neither cancelled their subscription or returned the loaned equipment.

Not sure what you mean by this but you can place an order online for Sky Broadband as you do not need a mobile phone for this but have you have internet access you can gp to the Sky website to place the order.

Two years in UK, one year in RoI. The penalty for early exit is something like 70% of the balance which would be due over the remaining contract term

Only if there's a move from FTTC to FTTP involved.
- What strength of internet is needed for stable large group Zoom meetings?
The internet says:
High-Quality Video (1:1 Calls): 1.0 Mbps download / 600 kbps upload
Group Video Calls:
High-Quality: 1.0 Mbps download / 600 kbps upload
720p HD: 2.6 Mbps download / 1.8 Mbps upload
1080p HD: 3.8 Mbps download / 3.0 Mbps upload
Screen Sharing (with video thumbnail): 50–150 kbps upload and download
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2
