How To Replace Sky Router With Gaming Router

I have recently taken out sky superfast broadband and before the engineer arrives to install it, I would like to know how I will be able to replace the default sky router with my own gaming router. As far as I'm aware, there is no way to put the sky router into modem only modem to achieve this. Is there a work around this? If so, would it cause can latency, signal or packet issues?

More specifically my gaming router is the Asus GT-AX11000.

All help is appreciated.

With that asus you would be best advised to get a vdsl modem bridge such as the tp link td w9970

Instructions for setting up tp link td w9970 as modem bridge

select sky vdsl from isp list

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/faq/1332/

This will allow the asus to obtain the public ip address to enhance your gaming experience. However you will lose sky calls if the phone needs plugged into the sky hub

Sky Stream , Sky Superfast, SR203 router, Tp link td w9970 + Asus RT AX58U (backup), Xbox Series X, google home mini, LG 43 inch UHD tv, samsung a5 2017 and samsung s21

So the only way to do it would be to replace the sky router with a seperate modem and then connect my gaming router to that modem?  There is no way to use the actual default sky router as a modem with disabling the wifi on it?

"There is no way to use the actual default sky router as a modem with disabling the wifi on it?"

That will just turn your asus into an expensive access point with the sky hub doing the nat and dhcp. With the asus having adaptive QoS you would want to have control over which devices packets get priority. This can only be done when the asus obtains the public ip address alongside the td w9970.  The tp link above is £35 when i bought mine

Further to @cookiemonsteruk's good points you need to keep in mind that the Sky hub doesnt have modem only mode so you'll end up with Double NAT if you dont use the Asus in AP mode which you certainly dont want to do.
