Higher Speeds on Vodafone
Hello,
Vodafone is offering higher speeds in my area (2gb vs. 900mb on Sky). More importantly, they offer symetric speed whereas Sky limits my upload to 150mb.
I see that City Fiber are deploying in my area, and they said that Sky would be using them.
Will Sky automatically offer me higher speeds when they are available?
Will they automatically switch to symmetrical speeds?
Many thanks for any insight

@RD971 Does not make sense, if Voda are offering you 2Gb/s then CF fibre must be on your doorstep now unless they are playing the let's take the order and suck it and see when it happens!

No

No
Essentially nothing happens 'automatically' because acceptance of a new contract is required.

@RD971 see this news item https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband-Talk/Introducing-Gigafast/ba-p/5032203 about Sky's new Gigafast+ service which if Your address is served by City Fibre you should be able to upgrade to and get 5Gb/s should you think you need such speeds.

@JimM1 if they are running to time thry should be but if Vodafone are offering 2Gb/s it implies the area is on XGS-PON.

@Chrisee Did think about pointing the OP that way but when he said OR (900) was the sky limit decided not to push the go check option and open up another can of worms that way!

Re: Higher Speeds on Vodafone
Thanks all for your input. I will wait a bit and check upgrade options, but the gigafast+ option seems pricey.
Speed for me is the secondary concern. What frustrates me is the reduced upload speed.
A lot of activity in my area with vans from city fiber, open reach and fiber one , so I might have some different options soon.

Re: Higher Speeds on Vodafone
You have options of Openreach FTTP and CityFibre FTTP?
If you have CityFibre then its a no brainer over Openreach due to the higher upload speed.
Community Fibre is avaible most of my surrounding area but they could not get the fibre cables to the 2 overhead poles on our street and they gave up. So everyone else enjoying 900Mbs up/down for £25 and few of us on this road limited to Openreach

@Sayek Are you a content uploader? It's a 1 hour long video but well worth the watch if you want to!

Re: Higher Speeds on Vodafone
@JimM1 Nah...for my house 20Mbs upload is more than enough and the 70Mbs I currently have is eye candy
But its about bragging rights to mates 😊

@Sayek Got you would love to say the same, but not in my 45+ years experience as a specialist in the field! But you did bring a tear to the eye with joy and laughter!🤣👍

Re: Higher Speeds on Vodafone
Hi all and thanks for your input.
I also don't think I need crazy speeds on upload but apart from bragging rights it's also about having the best speed available to me.
Cityfibre have confirmed that VF is available to me.
If Sky are going to stick to openreach, I think I can cancel since I am within my cooling off period of 31 days...
Not sure if it's worth the trouble especially if VF have difficulties setting me up.
