High pitch ringing noise from Landline - no dial tone

The landlines dial tone has gone, no calls can come through and none can be called out. The Broadband is absolutely fine it's just the landline. I've tried disconnecting it which gives it dial tone for a second then cuts off again, and then I hear a high pitch ringing noise progressively getting louder, this goes on for a minute or 2 then stops and goes back to no dial tone. We have had bad weather near by but have had worse so unsure what is the problem. If anyone has suggestions to what this is then I'd appreciate it

How are your broadband and phone connected to the line, do you have a master socket, DSL filter or are you on FTTP fibre to the home.

If DSL filter, i have had on go bad with the exact symptoms that you describe, if so replace the dsl filter.

If not post back your info.

It is a master socket on the wall and I believe it's DSL. I put a note on here as I wasn't getting through on the helpline but I've gotten through to them and they did a line test and looks like there's something wrong with it so an engineer has been booked now. Thank you kindly for your help though

You should be able to remove the faceplate, plug you phone into the test connection and call

150 to get to sky, It maybe worth testing now so you know that is a good option and if it work's.
