Help moving from virgin modem mode to sky max
Hi, just switched from virgin. I'm being told there is no modem or bridge mode on the skymax. I wish to connect to my existing velop mesh network. What's the best way to do this?
queries. I have my landline connected to the sky max. Raspberry pi running a vpn connection. Don't really want to touch my mesh network. Will I need to by a new router to replace the sky max, I won't be using the wifi on the new or sky max router .
Additionally can I connect the velop directly to the open reach fttp? Where do I plug the timeline in? Do I set the velop as pppoe? Do I need a user name and password?
thanks for any help

@Cliffyjol you can connect your Velop mesh unit by ethernet to the new white hub. If you set the Velop in sccess point mode it should work (see https://b4rn.org.uk/support/mesh-access-point-mode) alternatively you can use the Velop system in router mode but you then have a double NAT system and you may hit issues with some apps. In either configuration turn off the WiFi Max hub's WiFi using the My Sky app.
Assuming you are in the UK connecting the Velop directly to the ONT will work in roughly 75% of cases. You need to configure the unit to use DHCPv6 PD whether it works or not depends on the kit at the exchange. AFAIK Linksys dont support the DHCPv4 Option 61 method 100% of Sky lines support.

Re: Help moving from virgin modem mode to sky max
If I directly connect to the open reach and ignore the skymax router, any idea how/ where I could plug my phone line into?

You cannot do so. Sky Talk Internet Calls only functions if the Sky Broadband Hub or Max Hub is the primary router because it's the internal ATA and baked-in software configuration which permits this.
For 'landline' voice calls without a Sky Hub you'd need to acquire a VOIP subscription and appropriate handset hardware (ethernet or WiFi) from a specialist provider.
