Has Sky removed the Option 61 requirement from non Sky routers?

Reason I ask this question:

Bought an Asus router after reading the need to edit the option 61 string to get it to work with sky. Connected it up to my ONT (newly installed Adtrans model), run the automatic setup and found everything just works perfectly.

Checked the settings afterwards and the option 61 string is empty. Does this mean we can now use any brand of router going forward?

Router is an Asus RT-AX57 (AX3000).

Apparently for full fibre connections it's not required for the majority of UK exchange areas (around 80% comes to mind)

I believe that's due to upstream Openreach hardware rather than a decision by Sky though.
