Genuine Sky call or not

I received a call today purportedly  from Sky.She was very chatty and very nice .She said that she wanted to see if i could get a better deal on my broadband . She then asked what I currently paid (£53) and was horrified . She then asked  who the provider was and I told her it was Sky !

She laughed hysterically . Alarm bells had started for me now. She told me that shecould get me a deal for only £35 including Netflix andSky TV and Broadband Superfast . I said great. She told me what my password was (correct) She started off asking my address which was incorrect . She then asked for my postcode which I gave her . Meanwhile i checked online the details of the offer and it seemed genuine ,the number she was calling from which was the genuine Sky number.  It sounded like they were having a party in the background so I smelt a rat and hung up .She tried to call again twice. I answered , she then sent through a contract and  Key Facts, which seemed genuine again  which  I had to accept with a click . She then asked for my bank details which I refused to give her . She also couldn't tell me my phone number which shoulld have been onfile IMO. I told her that I was going to research about scams. She asked if it would help if she gave me her Employee Code. I said no . Shje left it an hour as I had asked her to and has since called me back 4 times. The email that she sent the contract through from is the same email that Sky sent the original contract to me on a few years ago so there are reasons why this all seems bonafida but telling me my password, not knowing my phone number, telling me my contract. ended inAug (it ended last December), getting my address wrong and asking for bank details (explanation was that this will be a brand new contract and it therefore all needs to be inputted afresh)  seems suspicious !!!

Opinions please !

Re: Genuine Sky call or not

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

@nell5 sounds very fishy the standard methodca Sky agent on an outbound call should use after introducing themselves is to ask if you are the account holder and ask you for your telephone password. If you give that correctly they can then and only then open your account on their system . They should never need to ask for your bank details the Sky system holds them securely.

These scammers are clever and imply they know more than they actually do, one way to determine if they are legitimate is to give intentionally wrong answer to a question like a password as a genuine Sky agent will know that is wrong while the scammer is likely to accept it.

However the main reason why I think this is a scam is Sky do not routinely call customers to offer a price reduction. Their outbound calls are for things like offering a switch to full fibre broadband as that saves them money or to sell an additional product. Oddly Sky are in business to make money not give it away.😀
