Garden Office. Best Wi-Fi and Ethernet set up
Hi,
Asking for advice on a new Garden office set up.
we have sky Q and sky broadband full fibre gigafast with Wi-Fi boost. Sky hub 4.2 broadband router.
Wi-Fi works perfectly in house close to router. Garden office is unreliable and drops out due to distance. We got a Wi-Fi booster from sky and tried it in a few locations but doesn't improve things. We also have sky a mini box which doesn't improve signal.
we want to run an Ethernet cable to office. The cable to garden office will run directly from sky broadband router.
what is best cable to use? Cat 6 Ethernet?
how should we terminate cable in office?
we need Wi-Fi for multiple devices including phones and x2 laptops and tablet.
will a wifi booster do the job as it would be connected to the main hub and should give a reliable Wi-Fi signal?
or do we install a Wi-Fi access point with Ethernet ports to ensure we can connect a few devices directly? Is this better to future proof and provide multiple ports. What is best option here without getting to technical and having a full network set up? Would only need 1 or 2 Ethernet ports in office if the Wi-Fi is reliable.
thanks!!!

Re: Garden Office. Best Wi-Fi and Ethernet set up
I have a similar setup.
Running a cat 5E/CAT6 cable from router and terminate in the office in a mounted rj45 socket.
Plugging in a 8 port 1 Gbs switch which allows me to connect the hardwired equipment and an access point for the wifi clients.

Thanks for the feedback!
can you get a multi port rj45 socket? And can anybody me install it with limited diy skills?
also, how you get your Wi-Fi in the office? Or you have everything wired in?

Re: Garden Office. Best Wi-Fi and Ethernet set up
You can get 2 port rj45 sockets, but each port would require its own cable coming from the hub.
Having one port with a switch gives you the same unless you are using more than the total speed of your connection constantly.
I have an wifi access point connected to switch, so my phone connects to the wifi ssid from the access point.
Wiring this up is not that difficult (its easier than crimping a connector to the end of the rj45 cable if you don't do it on a regular basis).
There are likely some youtube videos arround showing how this is done

Very helpful, thanks!
What type of Wi-Fi access point do you use?
and does this just connect into the switch via Ethernet and work without any complicated set up?
I assume it doesn't impact on the Wi-Fi network at the main hub either?
