Who is your fibre with and what speed are you paying for? What device are you measuring the WiFi on? It's quite common for WiFi to be a lot less than the maximum possible speed of your connection - to get that you would need to connect directly to your router via ethernet.

500Mb over wifi is a lot! Count yourself lucky. I have 1Gb fibre and lucky to get 150Mb over wifi.

500Mbs is not unreasonable over Wi-Fi as I can get that in most of rooms with Sky Full Fibre 500.
But if I was getting 150Mbs on a 900Mbs connection...I would be asking myself how to improve the Wi-Fi otherwise thats just a waste.

Speeds over WiFi can very much depend upon the WiFi adapter being used, distance from the hub and if there's anything between the source and the receiver.

1Gb, not a paltry 900Mb 😉
I know how to improve it. A £1k wifi7 mesh. Question is whether it matters and it doesn't.
I get 1Gb on my main PC for big Steam downloads which are about the only thing that need that much bandwidth.

I get more than 150Mbs on my paltry 500Mbs using £129 poor mans dual band Wi-Fi 6 mesh 😁 I am not paying a months mortgage money for a mesh system 😳
But I have seen many people pay for 900Mbs and rely on basic ISP router for full bandwidth over Wi-Fi 😬

My mesh is 5 nodes and wifi5. An upgrade with that many APs isn't worth it, even to wifi6 when nothing I stream or use on wifi needs more than about 30Mb each.
Just ran a quick test just for you 😉
curious result

If it makes you happier, I just installed a new wifi7 mesh as the Orbi370 (only dual band, the quad band one is over £2000!) 3 nodes was going cheapish...
12 hour delivery from Amazon. Bonkers
slightly improved performance
and all the Q config I had still works though I had to do a network reset and then reactivate both minis. I think this was because the Orbi started up in router mode dishing out its own private LAN, and you have to use the advanced settings interface to make it just behave like an AP connected to an existing wired router. Having realised that and changed it, I had to reset the Q network all over again. Gah.

Re: Full fibre network, WiFi speeds never exceed 500Mbps .
@Chodley Sorry for the late reply..unforetunately my Wi-Fi was playing up so could not reply...hopeless cheap dual band TP-Link mesh 😩
I have no Wi-Fi 7 devices in my house but was praying a Wi-Fi 6 tri-band would have a price drop at Amazon Prime.... but sadly my prayers were not answered.
I actually wanted Sky Fibre 300 as thats more than enough for my house. But there was a offer for Sky 500 cheaper than 300 so took it the deal for £27 plus £80 gift card and a further £40 cashback.
The gift card and cashback paid for the poor mans dual band mesh 😊.
Hopefully by April 2027, 2 pack Orbi 370 will come down in price and collect another £120+ incentive for switch to another ISP to pay for the Orbi.
But in the mean time this poor mans internet setup will have to suffice 😎

@Sayek Yonks ago that the Tp-Link you had would just not cut the mustard, you want a decent mesh that works then Asus is the way to go, expensive they are but the work and do it well and NOTHING extra is required as every bell, whistle and oopsiedo is included. Even as they get superseeded for new the old ones just do not get lowered in price by very much...
Tp's are ok for general and do work, but when the decide not to play they are a pain in the posterior. You will never beat a wired backhaul even for look and feel on the network so if you can run the cable!
What to expect on a wifi6 Asus Tri band.
Asus old XT8's
