Full fibre - Openreach said blockage

I am in process of changing over tofull fibres.  1 week ago Openreach arrived outside my property to do external box and prep .  I got a call from them to say there is a blockage of sone sort and he needs to escalate issue.   That's the last I have heard. Sky is due to come to do the internal part of install on Friday.  How will they do this if the outside install not completed . I called sky today and was concerned that no one has communicated with me yet regarding the issue.  She checked records and said she could not see anything wrong and that they will still come on Friday to complete install.  So im really not sure what's goibg on.  I have also received email to say my new broadband hub will be coming next few days too.  Can someone help and advise please.  Thanks

For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (VDSL or G.fast) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.

For all SOADSL services,the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.

Actual speeds experienced by end users and quoted by CPs will be lower due to a number of factors within and external to BT's network, Communication Providers' networks and within customer premises.

In order to be eligible for handback, downstream speed should be less than Downstream Handback Threshold values.

If you decide to place an order for a WBC fibre product, an appointment may be required for an engineer to visit the end user's premises to supply the service

ADSL, ADSL2+ and SOADSL availability: If shown at FTTP or SOGEA premises,ADSL, ADSL2+ and SOADSL are not available to order due to WLR Withdrawal stop sell rules. CPs should order FTTP or SOGEA. Copper products are only available by exception.

@Metro2345

"UG premises served by 2.5 Inch plastic duct 56."  Probably where they think the blockage is but makes no mention of the blockage

And 1 stage install with no mention of the blockage.. 1 stage is good as it hopefully indicates that they don't need a specialist team, planning permission etc  so should come prepared for whatever blockage they think they have come across.

Re: Full fibre - Openreach said blockage

I can say that I had full fibre  fitted  last month, the open reach engineer  did the whole  lot. Started by putting  o n t box  inside the house, after  we  talked  about where I would like to have it,then  did the outside  work

Which is what should have happened on @Metro2345 's install @peter-marlow+1966 but for what ever reason the engineer could not run the supply fibre from the distribution point though the duct to their house. This happens sometimes and a different crew is sent out who will try to "rod" the.duct and install a pull rope for a fibre engineer to use. They have to dig up,the road to find and clear the blockage if that doesn't work which can take a while to arrange as the local authority has to give permission for road works if the blockage is under the carraigeway.

Unfortunately, and particularly given the nature of most British building sites, it's not exactly unknown for that '2.5 Inch plastic duct 56' to be the natural dumping point for cement residue...

Re: Full fibre - Openreach said blockage

  • So.all Installed internally and externally. Was told was a bit tricky set up of cables in our development but he managed it . So all was fine. Friday and Saturday and Sunday morning no broadband 😔. On the ONT box on wall  the  LOS button is red which indicates external issue . I called sky up and they are due to come on Tuesday to look at.  So we have had to connect to internet via hotspots 😞.  It was all working fine so not sure what's happened.

@Metro2345 the engineers have to make a fusion weld to join the fibre pigtail used internally to the fibre from the road. This has to be done prefectly even a single grain of dust can cause a failure as the fibre is only a few microns across when its protection is rdmoved. The engineers carry expensive fusion splice machines which test the joints but still occasionally a weld fails.
