From Ultrafast Plus to Gigafast

Good evening,

Yesterday I upgraded from Ultrafast Plus to Gigafast.

My dowlnoad speed instantly jumped from a steady 520Mb/s to a steady 945Mb/s which I am very happy with.

However my upload speed remained identical at a steady 71Mb/s. Is this typical? I was expecting at least a little jump in upload speed.

Speed tests via wired ethernet to router.

@nkendall you were doing well if you got 71Mb/s upload on Ultrafast plus as it is advertised at 60Mb/scwhile Gigafast is advertised at 90Mb/s. The snag is Openreach give no guarantees on upload speeds so neither can ISPs.

Re: From Ultrafast Plus to Gigafast

Thank you @Chrisee

I suspected this might be the case. Not to worry though, that's plenty of speed! I just thought there would at least be a little improvement after switching.

I may give Sky a ring in a week or two, just to see what they say.

@nkendall

Leave it 24-48 hours as certain parameters are played about with (apparently) to optimise speed. But as @Chrisee says theres no guarantee on upload its just it should be easier to control than vdsl fttc

P.S. glad the asus is working as it should 👍and thanks for the thanks. Always good to be appreciated

Yes the Asus is working perfectly thank you. There was one issue that I had in that the 5Ghz band kept dropping, leaving no internet connection on those connected devices. After a bit of research it turns out the latest Asus firmware has a bug which causes this problem, so I changed the firmware to a Merlin one and the issue was fixed (see here).

Also if you look at my speed image above, when I swapped from Ultrafast to Gigafast you will see a little bump which is where I swapped the sr203 for the Asus, so it also gives btter throughput too. Am very happy with the setup now 😀

Thanks again.

Re: From Ultrafast Plus to Gigafast

Just to update ....

This weekend my upload speed has suddenly jumped from a constant 69/70 Mb/s to 107 Mb/s.

No idea why, but it is now in line with what I should be getting (higher actually).

Maybe Sky have updated some of their equipment as I know they have currently suspended new Gigafast conmnections.
