Re: Free upgrade

Before people gett carried away with this FREE speed upgrade you may want to check your future bills.

I was upgraded on 06/12/2018 and got a message on my mobile and when i checked mysky app my discounted fibre, rental and anytime extra calls went from 31 pm to £49.40 pm and that is to be taken from 28/12/2018. My discount doesn't end till the last day of March.

Got through to Sky's abroad reps and was told that is correct price but as the Sky's billing system is a bit behind it "may not" take the £49.40 on the 28/12/2018 but if if does call back and Sky will give these back as credits for February's bill.

As of yesterday mysky app, online and sky hd box account all showing £49.40 to be taken as it is December's bill dated 14/12/2018.

Maybe i am the only one but i think it is something to keep n eye on your bills.

Re: Free upgrade

I was on 38/10 fibre and the free speed upgrade was actioned by Sky on 6/12/2018.

I am 9 months into a 12 month discounted deal.

I had a simular experiance with last years change of Sky sports package when they change in August and my discounted deal was stopped and i had to pay full price for the last 4 months as Sky said i requested to be upgraded to the pack when i already had the full sports pack.

Re: Free upgrade

However, in this case, as @vinnieshelp posted previously, it's a temporary glitch and once Sky's accounting system catches up, there's no price increase for this free upgrade.

Re: Free upgrade

Just a reminder when the upgrade is started.

1) your speed will go up and down for over a week sky say 10 days or so.

2) while this is happening  dont turn your router off for any reason. It restarts it self.

3)yes we get it is a pain waiting but the upgrade is free.

4)if you using speed tests on WIFI the speed is never going to say 80mb or 20mb it will all ways be lower. wired lettle higher but still not 80/20

5) if you look of you router setting and see the connection speed has changed it will level out at some point in the next few days.

5) if you are on a offer. when that offer expires you will pay the standed rate that sky fiber max is. £5more than unlimited on standard rate.

6) if you are not on a offer and pay standard rate for fiber unlimited that is what you will carry on paying. You are the lucky ones haha for the time being.

7) sky fiber unlimited is going. And max is going to be the set standard for all firms and 80/20.

8)WHEN YOUR OFFER END JUST PHONE THEM UP AND ASK FOR ANOTHER FIXED TERM CONTRACT AND THEN YOU WILL GET A NEW OFFER.

8) Contracts are everything to them and standard is not.

you could have movies and just cancel them and get a now tv stick and claim offers from them every few months on a pass and save in the long run. It is only in SD play though or get the better now tv box for 4k

Re: Free upgrade

The information you've just posted is nonsense.

You can restart your router.

The chances are you'll see the higher speeds as of immediate effect.

From time to time you may find packets are lost due to line learning algorithms.

After a week or so the line will stabalise.

Re: Free upgrade

This is just what has happen to us around our area, to call it all nonsence is a bit much.

And true you can turn off the router, but not recommended. As your router may get a update over night.

When you turn your router off for a brief  time the connection speed will increase or it has done for me when i did it but that was before i was getting full 80/20. From 40/10 But not stay fixed in the first few days.

Re: Free upgrade

I'm a software developer with good network knowledge, I've written my own DNS server and specialise in network security, specifically network performance and DOS prevention, so I know a fair bit about how routers work, DHCP servers, NAT, VPN servers, etc. I've even contributed to open source firmware for network providers and communications specialists such as KCOM. What you have just posted is still utter nonsense.

Or February or March just luck of the draw unfortunately as it’s down to when Openreach do the work at your local exchange so it is not a regional switch as such.

When upgraded your hub should resync at a speed between 40Mb/s and 80Mb/s depending on the length and condition of your phone line to the street cabinet. That speed might increase if the cabinet  can run the software to lower the noise margin (around 2 in 3 can) and the line does not pick up to much noise or drops too many times. Frankly if speed increases that is down to luck so really don’t be too surprised if it doesn’t. There s nothing you can do to make it happen but avoid too many hub restarts as that can affect the process.

Remember that the speed you see on any single device is down to the slowest part of the link which can often be your WiFi network or even the server you are connecting to.

I thought i should highlight a few inaccuracies.

As the letter/email points out, the speed boost is at no extra charge.

If you’re currently receiving a discount, you’ll pay the discounted rate until that expires. At which point the monthly cost will be the same as Sky Fibre Unlimited – despite receiving Sky Fibre Max speeds.

If you do not receive an offer, your costs will not be affected by the speed boost.

Re: Free upgrade

In my case I'm already 10 meg down since install as I wanted bt to use previous. VM socket in living room when I switched to sky fibre.

It will be interesting what I gain when the upgrade commences.

Re: Free upgrade

Regarding speed...I found replacing some old cat5 cables with Gbit rated cables and putting in a new Gbit switch (at < £20 a no brainer to take advantage of the Q router) made a VERY significant difference to in house speeeds.

I sense some posts are relating to the device speed from a speedtest and some the speed shown in router admin. I found installing better cabling allowed these to become almost the same. But initially best device speed was much lower.

The debate on reseting router also depends on the generation of ADSL (N.B. "A" is for adaptive)  kit in cabinet or exchange. My advice is let it settle after upgrade for several days and then try the reset - but not too many times as this then looks to the exchange like a problem.

I guess in next year we will all be on the MAX product and its future pricing will be of great interest - but for now enjoying the free upgrade!!!!
