Re: Free upgrade

Are you sure?

That would be below the belt to offer a free speed upgrade to then turn around in 18 months and charge you for it.

Re: Free upgrade

I thinks it's normal to offer an enticement upgrade offer then charge fulll price end of offer.

I did notice on sky.com there is a quote which goes upto £44.99 after 18 months.

This is my concern as I took it as this could be future cost.

I also had very short read of switching to Bt as an example and read into that, fibre broadband services are looking to increase next few months etc.

I think the very good times of low costed fibre is maybe past and time for providers to claim a decent return.

What a competitive market, could be interesting, I for one don;t want to be requesting offers every few months, I'll review providers when my existing deal end approaches , which in q1 2019 happens to be Sky.

I have in past been very happy with VM fibre also -let's be honest another company who tend to notch up their cost after some time.

BT could interest me only on the basis they are untried fibre provider.

Re: Free upgrade

I have the letter in my hand.

There is zero mention of any increase in price, in fact, in bold, is at no extra monthly cost.

On that basis well done to the folks who have the standard fibre.

My curiosity is the area upgrade winter/spring, if that really is genuine then those who have already upgraded to MAX, might, just might, get something for free.

Yes. They said anyone who takes advantage of the offer will be told it’s an 18 month special offer price.

Re: Free upgrade

I only have the e-mail

Noticed Fibre Max exsiting Customers won't  see any changes to speed or cost.

+ Free 63mb upgrade is NOT a new contract (for existing  non max Customers)

I`m not sure we are talking about the same thing. there is no taking advantage of the offer, it is a free upgrade to your existing fibre BB, no contract extension or financial outlay.

Re: Free upgrade

From the FAQs

Is this a new contract?

No, you won't be entered into a new contract or have your minimum term extended.

Re: Free upgrade

@Yorkiecherry

You wont, you either will get the letter in the next few weeks or not. If you post your router stats then we can predict whether you may get it or not based on whether your line supports Max

Re: Free upgrade

Well the adviser I spoke to was obviously a twit.

I upgraded to max about 3 weeks ago. I have a special offer so I am paying the same as normal fibre on an 18 month contract. I called because I told them I had received the free upgrade email and I wanted to make sure that after my 18 months my price would not increase back to the normal Max price. She said it would do and to call nearer the time to see if they can help. So I said regarding the email to upgrade free will they get it for a lifetime and she said NO they will also be on a contract.

So what I guess is happening, say you have 6 months left of your existing contract then when it ends your price will probably go back up to full max price unless you phone up to discuss. They are not making this clear though and it seems like false advertising to me.

Re: Free upgrade

There is no mention of upgrading the router though, and the current router sucks, to use max to the full potential a different router is provided, so will Sky be upgrading our routers too? And if not how can we get the upgraded router?

Re: Free upgrade

From the Upgrade to Fibre Max FAQs

Do I need any extra equipment?

No, the Sky Hub you already have is compatible with your new Fibre Max broadband package.

Just keep it plugged in and it'll adjust to the new speeds once your package has changed over.

Well I am not sure about that statement. The wifi distance may be an issue but throughput is spot on, especially via 5Ghz. (Not sure what`s going on with the noise stats today, looks like a router firmware update last night)

Re: Free upgrade

Indeed! @Mark39

Uses Realtek drivers which I have always found the best for wifi ;-)

Edit: Just looked and is £12.99 but not quibbling over a 99p typo.
