Firmware updated now router is unstable

My router updated it's firmware the other morning to this version

 Version7.02.0201.RM

And now it's become very unstable the WiFi is pretty much poor on all channels and my devices now buffer constantly no matter what I set the WiFi to I've tried different channels and splitting the 2.4 and 5ghz I've reset the hub to factory settings , why on earth do these firmwares come out and ruin what I had before ,before the update everything was fine , also my ping rates on my streaming devices are erratic now , why didn't sky just leave things alone 😭😭

@iangilf not seen other reports of issues with this firmware which has been rolling out for some time - my system updated a couple of weeks back - not saying you are not having issues but the firmware update could be coincidental.

If you post your hubs stats someone should be able to comment see Find your Sky Broadband router statistics

@iangilfDid you re-boot the router yourself, or did the router hard reset itself around 1 hr 25 minutes ago from the router stats?

@iangilfWould have to say that we would have to wait and see if your instability issue comes back, that you post your router stats again, but do not restart the router before posting them please.

Re: Firmware updated now router is unstable

Thanks for the input but surely I shouldn't have to wait for stable WiFi , surely that should just work

Cheers

@iangilf Sky continually update firmware to ensure their hubs remain secure and operate optimally they never give details of what has changed in an update. However, given there are several million of these hubs in use we know pretty rapidly if a firmware release is causing an issue which has been known in the past but nothing currently. Updating router firmware is entirely automatic with no user control and should be considered a good thing as security threats are appearing frequently.

The update would have re-started your hub so that could be the explanation of the loss of connection.

Your stats look OK but if your line experiences a sudden burst of noise the connection will drop if it starts to do that too frequently (around 10 drops in 24 hours) the automatic systems start to intervene raising the noise margin thus dropping speeds if that system can't stabilise the line without dropping speeds below the minmum guaranteed speed Openreach will then accept a fault report from Sky. Its worth checking your voice line as if that is noisy then you can report that fault to Sky as fixing that is likely to sort the broadband fault. For historic reasons voice line issues trump broadband ones.

@iangilf apologies I was looking at wrong set of stats. Ignore that chunk of my post but firmware updates do restart the hubs. Firmware updates happen but rarely cause issues.

Re: Firmware updated now router is unstable

Hi what WiFi dual channel extenders would be a good choice please maybe I will buy one of these to improve the 5ghz signal to upstairs ,see if that helps

I looked at this Tp-Link AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 Range Extender or would this work with sky fttp instead of the supplied sky router,

Tp-Link AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 Router

Thanks 😊

@iangilf

No extenders are recommended to be used with Sky as they dont play nicely with the hub at all. Your best options are a Sky Booster or a completely separate router/mesh system
