Fibre installed to the cab neat my house 6 months ago but still not available

Hi all,

So fibre was installed in the cab around the corner from my house around 6-10 months ago. I know this as i spoke to an engineer who was doing it and also there is a "Fibre is here" sticker on the box.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes for it to actually be available in local houses from when its installed at the cab? I would imagine 6-10months was plenty of time.

Thanks

@Speedytriple  If you go to this link and take a screenshot of the results (remove any address data before posting) it should show what is available.

I guess this is the bit that matters:

"ADSL, ADSL2+ and SOADSL are not available to order due to WLR Withdrawal stop sell rules"

😞

Those are antique/obsolete technologies.

Your address has FTTC available (VDSL in the top lines of the table) albeit at rather less than UK national average speed.

@Speedytriple the installation of fibre to a cabinet round the corner is unfortunately irrelevant as your line terminates at a cabinet some distance away given the maximum speed for VDSL of 47Mb/s and a handback figure of between 22 and 30Mb/s. That is the fastest service Sky can offer.

As yet your address does not have access to a full fibre FTTP service - ignore the reference to. FTTP on demand which is where you pay to run fibre to your home as even if you have several tens of thousands that would cost it is almost impossible to buy .

Note it is possible for an address to have FTTC availablity from at least one ISP (typically BT) but for Sky not to be able to offer it: they didn't here for years.

I am an existing customer and have been for years, however i currently only get around 30mbps which was ok a few years ago. now its becomiung a problem my only option is 'The enemy' who ive used before and nearly ended up going to court to get away from them!

30Mbs is an FTTC speed, and the table shows that no Openreach ISP can currently offer anything better than FTTC at your address.

Given FTTC means Fibre To The Cabinet, that's presumably what the 'Fibre is here' sticker was indicating.  This is not the same as FTTP.

The current Openreach target to finish getting 80% FTTP availability across the UK (i.e. to all 'commercially viable' locations, some 25 million properties) is the end of 2026.  The remaining 20% have projected installation costs exceeding all future ISP subscription income, and so need alternative solutions (likely to be cellular or satellite) or funding some other way.
