Fed up with the attiude of BT and considering moving BT to Sky / Full Fibre / Skymax and Sky Max Pod
Afternoon folks,
Had a lovely chat with the retentions team at Sky, upgrades to package all sorted with no bother and the usual friendly banter with the team to get what we wanted in the process. Then BT to get accounts renewed - usual FU attitude and zero interest in reaching a deal. I left that conversation with a better deal but still not as good a deal as Sky can offer, but what i'm really left with is a slightly bitter taste in the mouth and a desire to cut off my nose to spite their face!!
So in order to not ruin my ugly mug further .... if i wanted to replace 4 of my BT WIFI discs with Sky Max Pods (and yes, i know i have to get a Sky chap out if i want more than 1 ) ......
SkyMax router to get Mesh ability - £4 a month on top of the £34 base service (which includes Sky WIFI Max to get the Pods)
A number of Sky Max Pods - do the ethernet ports on these support connection back to the router via cable? I have HomePlug adapters at the far reaches of the house and connect my current BT discs to those.
Sky Fibre Max900 and Digital phone - am i right in thinking i can get that ported away from BT and moved to Sky IF i want to keep my landline? At this point we are seriously considering just ditching the landline altogether.
This should also deal with the nonsense that we currently have where the SkyQ box and the main box don't care to talk because the BT hub gets in the way.
Has anyone else done this move / used the Pods in this way and had any issues? Or any ex BT customers who have moved for exactly this reason? Or has anyone done this and regretted it?
All opinions welcome 🙂
Cheers,
Patrick

Hi Jim,
Not done it yet but well on the way to telling BT to stick it!
Essentially i'm debating between buying 3 or 4 2nd hand UNIFI discs and 'DIY' it or whether to get the SkyMax router and use the Sky officiall stuff and let one thing take care of it all.

@PatrickJD If you are doing that then go for it, i am 100% Asus, wired/wireless AI Mesh so i know that works 100%, would not have a sky Max hub if you paid me to use it, just not a fan in the slightest off a hub that HAS to use the app to adjust SO little that can be anyway!
Asus on sky FF500 zero issues whatsoever! Ex sky 20 yrs, 1 year EE wilderness and they told me to go after they stuffed up there Router FW now that's a surprise!

I think where i'm at is letting the Sky Router and that wifi take care of the Sky and SkyQ mini box and then the meshing they run will just work.
Then i can set up my own 2nd WIFI network via a seperate mesh for everything else.
Are the SkyMax routers / SkyMax Pods that bad?

@PatrickJD No experience off them but the Forum is just so bad on it as that is always the case, but have a good idea why, and you want sky Q working you would be better on the SR203 old trusty sky Hub that is well Q mesh workable, Max is NOT Q friendly!
Max is wi-fi 6, pods are wi-fi 5 from the yanks, and hidden backhaul opens up i will assume when pods go live, and tied into the sky WEB account tighter than a snare drum!

Yep and that SR203 looks like a BT home hub in a different dress 🙂
