Ethernet connecting to an out of date network name.

Our wifi is awful so we bought ethernet cables to connect our PCs to the broadband.  There is one cable from the modem to a splitter and then two short cables to our 2 PCs.  One works fine, but the other one will only connect to our previous network name which does not even work any more.  This network does not show up on the screen when in wifi mode so I can't delete it.  When switching to the ethernet cable, it is the only network that shows up so I can't connect to the current network, nor can I delete the old one there.  This is driving me nuts and is the epitome of Catch 22.  Can anyone offer any help please?  Thanks.

@cjj dont worry about the network name as it has no importance at all when using ethernet just ignore it a reset of the PC would clear the name but why bother?

Hopefully however you are not using a "splitter" instead you have a powered ethernet switch as unpowered splitters are a very bad alternative .

Re: Ethernet connecting to an out of date network name.

The splitter I have is powered via USB.  One computer won't connect to the correct network and the one it will connect to is out of date and does not work.  I have no internet on that computer.  I really need to delete the old network from the computer.  Any ideas please?

Re: Ethernet connecting to an out of date network name.

@cjj You keep saying splitter, so if that is what you have then it just may not work, The Forum is advising a switch... You either need to post a picture or say what that Splitter is, name model etc!

Ethernet name that is on a PC/Laptop is irrelevant, that is just the name that the device has in the registry for the device...
