End of my tether

I have ultra broadband and had it installed last year, I had moved from Virgin as i wasn't entirely satisfied with their customer service and I'd always recieved good service from Sky.  The broadband works great in the room where the router is but doesn't extend well past there.  I pay £43 a month for this (with some small discount as i have lots of other services) and it's awful! We can't watch smart tv's in the bedrooms due to the shocking reach of the router.  When i was with Virgin the package i was on was much lower yet it worked so much better with no issues of reach etc so why are the two so different?  I've been told that yes it can reach each room but i'll need to pay more for a wifi extender / repeater or the sky garuntee that it will work.  Do I not already pay for a service that should work?  I want to cancel but have been told that to do that in contract they would charge me £70 odd 9but that's just a guess as the technician I spoke too wasn't sure.  I keep spending an hour at a time on the phone to be told the same thing every time and ii;'m at my wits end with it.  Why should I spend more money for my service to work as it should??? Why can i not cancel a service that doesn't work?? I am absolutelty NOT paying more for extenders/ garuntees etc as i pay for a broadband service already, any ideas where to go next please?

The industry line is that customers are paying for broadband, not WiFi: despite what most people think, these are not the same thing.  To get 'better' wireless coverage is generally a chargeable extra.

If you currently have a Q Hub, those are now rather old and really not a great shape for WiFi.  Sky is already in the process of swapping them out, as they cannot support the move to digital voice service after PSTN switch-off.
