Elderly and stressed about broadband set up

I have power of attorney for my mum and we recently purchased broadband for the first time for my mum. The reason for this was to enable us to FaceTime when we go on a big holiday on Wednesday. Unfortunately the changeover date for her phone and broadband is the day we fly out Wednesday 25th September. My worry is something goes wrong and we have no one who can set up or fix an issue. There is no way my mum could cope with doing this and it would make her ill. I thought about delaying but I'm worried that goes wrong in that bt do something and sky don't and she is left with no phone. Is there anything that can be done to expedite given she is 89, lives alone and will have no one to assist while we are away? My stress levels are through the roof - thought I was doing the right thing for her to see us while away and now thinking I should have left it. Any help would be appreciated from a very stressed daughter

It's extremely unlikely to be possible to expedite the process: Openreach resources are allocated between ISPs as they become available.  Personally I'd think cancelling the switch might be wise, but unfortunately you're probably going to find it difficult to get through to Sky today.

Re: Elderly and stressed about broadband set up

@TimmyBGood thanks for the reply. In your experience do switchovers of phone from bt to sky go smoothly. If the broadband didn't work we would suck it up - it's the phone number transferring that our biggest concern at the moment. Do you know if phone numbers moving between providers tends to be problematic and require intervention?

I suspect, and the forum tends to suggest, that the vast majority go smoothly.  Unfortunately because so many are happening ( Openreach is attempting 80,000 FTTP activations a week on top of its previous workload) that even a small percentage of problems result in a large number of unhappy customers.

As I posted elsewhere recently, a 99% success rate for a million users is ten thousand problems.

If it's in the UK, putting the address into the BT Wholesale Availability Checker should indicate which broadband provisioning type is applicable.

It's the table and the two text lines below it which are most useful.

Remove any personal information (such as the address itself) if you post an image.
