Eero and Option 61

Morning All,

I have a brand new eero Max 7. I want to retain the use of eero features, so ideally I don't want to put the eero in Bridge mode.

Fully appreciate the situation with Option 61 and that the eero doesn't support it. I therefore need a downstream router that does. The Sky Max Hub can't be placed in Bridge mode and whilst I can (and have) turn off the Wifi, I don't believe that I can disable other standard router services (DHCP etc.) I think the simplest solution would therefore be to buy a basic router that does support option 61 and have it bridge to the eero for standard network/router services.

Can I please ask the assembled experts here whether I have this correct? If I do, then would anyone be able to suggest some routers that may do the trick?

Thanks in advance for any help. I really appreciate it.

@Shepscape First question has to be, do you need to have and / or require the use off a landline phone connected via sky!

Thankfully no! No landline/VoIP any more.

@Shepscape How is the current sky hub connected, to a OR Master phone socket or to a Full Fibre FTTP line with a OR Installed ONT modem!

Re: Eero and Option 61

Sorry... should have mentioned that in the original post! 😕

It's a 1Gbps fibre connection. Openreach ONT. Obviously then it's an RJ45 patch cable to the WAN port on the Sky Hub. Currently eero is just hanging off of one of the LAN ports.

@Shepscape roughly 80% of Sky UK connections support DHCPv6 PD as well as the DHCPv4 Option 61 so it is worth trying that alternative. This link discusses the set up required https://community.eero.com/t/83yy6lj/removing-sky-hub-and-using-just-eero

If it doesnt work you are essentially stuuck with a double NAT set up.

Re: Eero and Option 61

@Shepscape As @Chrisee points out you need to go try the Eero direct on the ONT, search Asus on the forum and you will find some picture links for that setup from me, and trust me when i say NO option Mer 61 in use as it was NOT needed!

There is not much posted EERO wise on the Forum as either it does not work or the user just does not have the skill set to make it work!

If you have a fresh never been on before, but have the EERO setup in Router mode Wan /Lan then you may have an easy transition too wan routing the EERO device!

@JimM1 as I stated in my post roughly 80% of lines the v6 option works so you wre lucky however give customers have no control of who made the equipment in their local exchange it is a gamble.

Re: Eero and Option 61

@Chrisee hi there, are you aware of a way to establish if my exchange requires DHCPv4 Options only?

Also, thanks for all of your posts on here, very helpful
